Williamsport's Yacksel Rios pitched well in his first start of the season, but the Crosscutters couldn't avoid a three-game sweep at Connecticut on Friday night, losing to the Tigers, 2-1.
Rios, who appeared in five previous games for the Cutters as a reliever, pitched three innings and didn't allow a run while striking out six.
Connecticut starter Chase Edwards was just as effective, however, and threw four shutout innings.
Neither team scored until the sixth when Williamsport struck first after Dylan Cozens drove home Andrew Pullin with a double to give the Cutters their first and only lead in the three-game series.
Connecticut took advantage of a leadoff walk in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead. After Josh Warner surrendered that walk to Raphael Rhymes, he allowed a two-run home run to Dominic Ficociello - his second of the season.
Warner (1-3) took the loss.
Williamsport will look to snap its losing streak tonight at Aberdeen. The IronBirds lead the McNamara Division.
