I want to start this with the statement that I am a Mayor Campana supporter. Then I read the headline "Mayor and his team lash council leader's crime-fighting plan".
This "plan" causes me to question what world Mayor Campana lives in. It's evidently one where the criminals follow rules?
In the majority of criminal activity articles I've been reading, and they have been numerous, the criminals involved were "visiting" or "staying with" a friend. What good is registering the renter going to do? They aren't going to be held responsible for what their "friends" do.
Is the thought that these renters can be coerced into giving law enforcement information? How will they know which renters they were staying with? I won't even go into the safety of these registration records.
I would be pretty worried if I were trying to hide from an abusive person and exactly where I lived was on file. This all seems like a waste of money that Williamsport could use in better ways. Next, why can't they locate these "slum-landlords" through tax records, title searches, or the other multiple county records available? Why is another "list" needed?
