Forest Edwin Hafer Jr., 85, of Williamsport, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at the Gatehouse. He was born Nov. 30, 1927, in Williamsport, the son of Forest Edwin Sr. and Fay E. (Clarke) Hafer. Forest was the husband of the late Rita Irene Williams Hafer with whom he shared 33 years of marriage prior to her passing in 1985.
He served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, his last station was Strategic Air Command. He obtained the rank of Major and worked in the department of Cryptography.
Forest was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed the time he spent working around his cabin and was an amateur and short wave radio enthusiast. Forest was a member of the John F. Laedlein Lodge 707.
He is survived by a son, Forest G. Hafer, of Williamsport and two brothers, Ned Hafer and Lynn Hafer, both of Washington.
Forest was predeceased by two brothers, Barry and Daryl Hafer, also a sister, Patricia Bodine.
Relatives and friends are invited to Forest's Life Celebration memorial service 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at the James C. Maneval Funeral Home, Ltd., "A Life Celebration Home," 500 W. Fourth St., Williamsport. Family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m.
