STATE COLLEGE - Kylie Kiess, a Penn State University student majoring in agricultural science, has been selected as a College of Agricultural Sciences Alumni Society Internship Award winner.
Kiess is the daughter of Jeff and Tammy Kiess, of Cogan Station.
The award, which includes an $840 stipend, was established to encourage students to enroll in internship courses offered within the College of Agricultural Sciences.
Winners are chosen on the basis of an internship plan, a final report on the internship, an employer evaluation and a letter of recommendation from the internship course supervisor.
Kiess was a product development assistant for T.A. Seeds LLC, an agricultural seed production and sales business in Jersey Shore. She was the first intern to work with T.A. Seeds and performed tasks such as counting seeds, riding on a planter to develop test plots and trials, and interacting with the team and their customers.
A graduate of Williamsport Area High School, she is a member of the Penn State Livestock Judging Team and the Penn State Collegiate Cattlewomen.
"Internships provide important on-the-job learning and networking opportunities that give students a leg up in today's competitive job market," said Naomi Knaub, the college's director of alumni relations. "The Alumni Society is pleased to provide support and encouragement to students seeking these real-world experiences as we recognize the award winners for their excellent internship performance."
