DANVILLE - Dr. Jill Gotoff, director of the pediatric epilepsy program and clinical neurophysiology laboratory for Geisinger Health System; and Dr. Arayamparambil Anilkumar, a Geisinger pediatric neurologist, are two of just 33 Pennsylvania physicians who achieved board certification in the first test given for the specialty of epilepsy by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
The board officially established the field of epilepsy as a definite area of subspecialization in neurology and child neurology to provide a means of identifying physicians properly trained and experienced in treating epilepsy. The inaugural board certification test in epilepsy was administered in 2013.
"This is a tremendous endorsement for the care our doctors provide patients who are suffering from epilepsy," said Dr. Henry C. Maguire, director of pediatric neurology for the health system.
Gotoff is board certified with special qualification in child neurology, as well as the subspecialty of clinical neurophysiology. Anilkumar also is board certified in pediatric neurology.
