The City of Williamsport developed some serious housing problems when the natural gas drilling industry descended on the area several years ago.
So there is a fitting symmetry to the use of natural gas impact fees to create a senior citizens housing complex, Grove Street Commons, in Williamsport's East End.
The announcement in conjunction with $545,000 in tax credits through the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency in Harrisburg, was made Monday.
The 32-unit complex won't solve all of the city's housing problems, to be sure. But it will offer a much-needed housing opportunity for senior citizens who want to downsize from single-family dwellings to apartments that provide worry-free living.
That's likely to become a trend in coming years, if it isn't already.
Hopefully, this is the start of many projects of this sort in the city and the surrounding area.
