Local roundup: Williamsport beats Shamokin in track and field

In boys track and field, Jared Thompson took first in the 200- and 400-meter dash and helped the 3,200 relay team take first by nearly two minutes and the 1,600 relay team first by over 30 seconds as Williamsport defeated Shamokin, 118-32. Williamsport won all but three events.

The Millionaires’ Qayyim Ali won in the long jump (20-7 1/2) and also in the high jump (5-8). Williamsport’s Stanley Scott earned a win in the triple jump with a distance of 44-0 3/4.

• Williamsport defeated Shamokin in girls track and field, 109-41. Mary McMahon earned two individual wins in the 1,600 (5:36.64) and 3,200 (12:27.93) while also helping the girls 3,200 relay team win in a time of 10:27.46.

Nina Schappell won in the 400 with a time of 1:05.13, besting the second-place winner by two seconds. Samiyah Little won for Williamsport in the discus with a distance of 102 feet, 2 1/2 inches.

• In high school baseball, Johnny Rowland struck out five in a complete game as Wellsboro snapped a five-game losing streak and defeated Sayre, 4-3. Wellsboro fell behind 2-0 and 3-2 but scored a run in the fifth and sixth innings.

Carson Davis drove in the eventual game-winning run in the sixth with a sacrifice fly.

• In high school softball, Muncy scored eight runs in the top of the sixth inning to pull away late in its 15-1 win in six innings over Sullivan County.

Kat Ebner pitched the complete game two-hitter while also having a home run while Dominique Schell had three hits and a double for the Indians.

Emily Snyder had 11 strikeouts as Montgomery defeated CMVT, 8-3. Snyder got the win and went 2 for 4 with an RBI double at the plate. Gabby Shreck went 3 for 3 with a double an RBI and two runs scored for Montgomery.

North Penn-Liberty beat St. John Neumann, 3-0, in a rain-shortened game. Savanah Doney threw a one-hit complete game with seven strikeouts for Liberty and Emily Strange went 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI.

Lauren Smith finished 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.

South Williamsport defeated Hughesville, 7-2. Emily Hennigan recorded six strikeouts in a complete game. Hanna Hennigan went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs for South WIlliamsport. Lilly Eiswerth went 1 for 4 and hit a two-run home run for Hughesville.

• Hughesville defeated Muncy, 3-1, in boys tennis. The Spartans swept the doubles competition and Noah Green won at No. 3 singles for Hughesville over Levi Messenger, 6-3, 6-2.

The No. 1 singles match between Justin Kramer and Ethan Burns had their match suspended in the third set due to rain as Kramer led 6-3, 4-6, 4-1.

• Kelly McGinniss scored five goals but Lycoming’s women’s lacrosse team fell to Stevenson, 17-10. Jordan Lazarich finished with four goals and Thamina Peti, Kayla DiJoseph, Leanne Shaw and Caroline Mitchell all had an assist for Lycoming.

• In college golf, Alec Sabatino led Lycoming College with a 94 to take 26th-place at the Elmira College Spring Invitational at the Elmira Country Club.

Sabatino led the Warriors, who finished eighth with a 409 in its final tune-up before the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships.

• LHU senior pitcher Rachel Mouillesseaux was honored by being named the PSAC Central Division Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Mouillesseaux went 2-0, winning both of her starts last week. Over a two game span (14 innings), she recorded two complete-game wins, an ERA of 1.00 and 12 strikeouts.

• Lycoming senior wrestler Seth Lansberry and junior women’s soccer and lacrosse player Jordan Lazarich were named the Lycoming College Male and Female Outstanding Athletes, respectively, at the college’s Honors Convocation on Sunday.

Junior men’s basketball player Chris Wallace also picked up a top honor, earning the Sol “Woody” Wolf Award. In addition, men’s cross country senior Donald Keys earned the college’s highest honor, the Chieftain Award.
