Local roundup: Loyalsock sweeps singles competition in victory

Katie Savidge defeated Paige Kupas, 6-0, 6-0, to help Loyalsock defeat Danville in girls tennis, 3-2. The Lancers swept the singles competition as Sienna Tolomay (No. 2 singles) and Melina Vuocolo (No. 3) won 6-3, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-2, respectively.

South Williamsport’s Olivia Dorner easily won at No. 1 singles against Lewisburg’s Haillie Keiser, 6-0, 6-0. Lily Summerson won at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1.

Lewisburg’s only win came at No. 1 doubles.

Maddy Reeves won at No. 1 singles for Montoursville, 6-0, 6-0, but the Warriors lost to Central Columbia, 3-2. Lydia Barbour had Montoursville’s only other win at No. 2 singles, winning, 6-3, 6-2 over Emma Kelchner.

Bloomsburg defeated Hughesville, 5-0. Carlee Pepper lost at No. 1 singles to Emily Keyser, 6-4, 6-1.

Williamsport blanked Jersey Shore, 5-0. Natalie Diaz won for the Millionaires at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2 and Katie Meale won at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1.

Maddi Schultz and Dania Dawes teamed up for a win at No. 1 doubles, but North-Penn Liberty fell to Towanda, 6-1.

• Bethany Beinlich had three goals and three assists, and Sophia Springman had a hat trick as Sullivan County defeated Montgomery, 9-1.

Crystal Hamilton scored a goal for Milton, but two penalty kicks helped Selinsgrove defeat the Black Panthers, 2-1. Kamryn Snyder had 14 saves for Milton.

Sara Swingle made 16 saves but North Penn-Mansfield couldn’t find the back of the net in its 1-0 loss to Wyalusing.

Aleaha Bigelow posted three goals and Josephine Benamati and Ashlynn Fowler added a goal and an assist each as Muncy defeated CMVT, 5-0.

Selena Permyashkin scored with an assist from Ella Reish for Lewisburg, but Midd-West tied it and forced overtime and the Mustangs won, 2-1.

Emma Poirier scored twice and Kerrah Clymer added a goal, but Athens defeated the Green Hornets, 6-3.

Hailey Zurich had a hat trick as Loyalsock defeated Mount Carmel, 5-2. Juliana Cruz and Charlotte Neylon both added goals.

Morgan Hopkins scored a game-tying goal, but Bloomsburg went ahead for good to defeat the Spartans, 2-1. Kenna Ammar-Khodja had an assist.

Whitney Felix had the go-ahead goal to give Williamsport a 3-2 win over Mifflinburg. Katie Penman scored twice for the Millionaires.

South Williamsport’s Kerrin Summerson scored the game’s only goal as South Williamsport defeated Southern Columbia, 1-0. Lela Warner had an assist.

Montoursville blanked Central Mountain, 7-0.

• Kevin Alexander scored two unanswered goals late to help North Penn-Liberty defeat Troy, 2-1, in boys soccer. Taylor Nelson and Nathaniel Johnson both had assists.

• In boys cross country, Lewisburg’s Jacob Hess won in a time of 17:33 in a meet with Southern, Central Mountain, Loyalsock and Jersey Shore. Loyalsock’s Alejandro Quintana was third with a time of 17:56.

• In girls field hockey, Cora Sandrick tallied a goal and an assist to lead Milton to a 2-1 win over Muncy. Hallie McClure posted Muncy’s lone goal.

• In high school golf, Central Mountain, led by Brady Williams’ 81, put together a 4-0 finish at the par 70, Selinsgrove Country Club. Montoursville’s Cameron Francis shot an 84 to lead the Warriors to a 3-1 mark.

At Wynding Brook, Dustin Terry shot a strong 72 to lead Lewisburg to a second-place finish in the HAC II match.

• Loyalsock’s Isabel Sager easily won a girls cross country meet with Lewisburg, Central Mountain, Southern Columbia and Jersey Shore, running to a finish in 20:47, besting second-place finisher Delaney Humprey by just under 2 minutes.

Wellsboro’s Kylie Butler ran in a time of 26:15 in a meet with Athens to finish second.

• Lewisburg’s Jacob Hess won a meet with Central Mountain, Loyalsock, Southern Columbia and Jersey Shore with a time of 17:33.

Wellsboro’s Bergen Weiner finished second in a meet with Athens, finishing with a time of 20:17.

• Larissa Motts and Dana Evans both scored second-half goals to help Mansfield defeat Mercyhurst in women’s field hockey, 2-1. The win improves the Mountaineers to 4-1, the best start for the program since 2008. The Lakers led early in the second half, 1-0.

• In college volleyball, a balanced offensive attack coupled with another impressive defensive effort helped the Lycoming College volleyball team post a 3-1 (25-19, 18-25, 25-19, 25-17) MAC Commonwealth win against Hood College.

Emily Hepner notched 26 digs to lead the defense, which posted 72 digs while the offense held Hood to just 50.
