Local roundup: Jersey Shore’s Hunter O’Connor wins 100th match

PHOTO PROVIDED Jersey Shore’s Hunter O’Connor is honored after defeating Hughesville’s Beau Draper at 170 pounds on Tuesday to become a 100-win wrestler at Jersey Shore. Standing next to O’Connor are Jersey Shore athletic director Stephen Alexander (left) and Jersey Shore wrestling coach Crock Herman (right).

Hunter O’Connor became the eighth Jersey Shore wrestler to win 100 career matches, but the Bulldogs dropped a 38-35 decision to Hughesville in high school wrestling. O’Connor scored a second-period fall in the night’s second bout as the Bulldogs broke out to a 17-0 lead, but Hughesville had 17 bonus points to get the win.

In a match which featured just three contested bouts, Montgomery won all three in a 57-6 win over Loyalsock. Kai Felix posted a 4-3 win over Brandon Shearer, and Devon Deem and Dan Beckley each posted falls.

Mario Barberio posted a fall over Ian Coller and Muncy won the final three bouts in a 44-27 win over Line Mountain. Ethan Gush had a key major decision at 170, and Mike Kustanbauter and Cael Hembury each had falls.

Central Mountain defeated State College, 45-24. Lane Porter (145), Austin Confer (170), Tanner Riggle (195) and Johnny Shreffler (120) all earned wins for the Wildcats by pin.

• In boys basketball, Bucktail rallied from 24 down in the second quarter to take lead with 2:30 left in the game, but the deficit proved to be to much as CMVT held on for a 69-62 victory. Gavin Becker scored a game-high 29 points while knocking down seven 3-pointers to spark the Bucktail rally.

Noah Rymsza continued his hot scoring stretch, finishing with a game-high 26 points to lead Muncy to a 72-28 victory over Benton. Kolby Myer had a 17-point, 12-rebound double-double and Dylan Wilt played a complete game with 8 points, 8 rebounds and 8 steals for the Indians.
