Local roundup: Shore’s Ewing sets school record in loss

Nate Ewing tied a Jersey Shore school record for most 3-pointers in a game as he made seven, but it wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs lost to Selinsgrove, 73-60, in boys basketball on Monday.

Ewing ended with a career-high 36 points and Tanner Lorson added 13.

Sam Carpenter nearly had a double-double, leading Sullivan County with 14 points and eight rebounds as the Griffins defeated Wyalusing, 48-42.

Carpenter added three steals. Jalen Thomas had 13 points for Sullivan County.

Cowanesque Valley played Millville to a 22-18 first half, but could not keep pace, falling 63-26. Tyler Vargeson led Cowanesque Valley with eight points.

Montoursville held Hughesville to three points in the second and fourth quarter combined and knocked down 10 trifectas in a 66-39 rout of the Spartans. Dillon Young led four Warriors in double figures with 13 points and Devon Braden led Hughesville with 16 points.

Canton jumped out to an early lead and was able to hang on for a 53-50 hard-fought victory on Monday. Michael Smithers led four Warriors in double figures with 16 points, while Duncan Zeafla netted 13 for North-Penn Liberty.

Wellsboro won their third straight NTL Large School Division Championship with a 64-36 win over Towanda. Brandyn Tuttle moved 53 points closer to the 1,000-point mark, leading Wellsboro with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Hunter Brown added eight points and seven rebounds, while Joseph Grab had seven assists.

• In girls basketball, North-Penn Liberty earned a convincing 43-24 victory against Williamson. Eva Rice (10), Taylor Thompson (12) and Taelyn Brown (13) finished in double figures.

Jaime Palmer had a huge game, finishing with 17 points, nine rebounds and seven steals to lead North-Penn Mansfield to a 53-37 victory over St. John Neumann. Hannah Bowens (11) and JoAnne McNamara (10) finished in double figures for the Tigers, while Brooke French led the Knights with 17.

Montgomery fell to Midd West, 57-32. Riley Fry had a team-high nine points for the Red Raiders.

Jessica King finished with a 12-point 10-rebound double-double to lead Sullivan County to a 58-29 victory over Wyalusing. King also had six blocks, while Alexis Randall (seven points, nine rebounds) and Sophia Springman (seven points, eight rebounds) also had big games.

• Matt Cerruti of the Lock Haven men’s basketball team earned a Co-Player of the Week for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division after his stellar play this week.

On Wednesday, Cerruti recorded another double-double in the win over Mansfield on 16 points and 11 rebounds. In the playoff-clinching win over Bloomsburg, Cerruti was on fire once again as he poured in 30 points in the 78-75 win.

After tying a 16-year-old school-record by draining 11 3-pointers to lead Lycoming to a win over second-place Hood College, freshman Matt Ilodigwe was named MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week.

Ilodigwe tied Tommy Wesner’s record of 11 3-pointers in a game set in 2002 against Lincoln University, as he became the first MAC Commonwealth player since 2015 to drain 11 trifectas in the game.
