Local roundup: Williamsport’s girls swimming team tops Central to win HAC league title

The Williamsport girls swim team captured the HAC league title with a 122-60 win over Central Columbia on Tuesday. Williamsport’s Isabelle Griswold, Ellie Fisher, Elisa Dinicola, and Mallory Pardoe won the 200 medley relay. Griswold was part of the winning 400 freestyle relay and won the 100 freestyle in 57.93.

Fisher won 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.93 and Dinicola won the 100 butterfly and was on the winning 200 freestyle team along with Pardoe.

Jordan O’Connor won the 50 free and earned a victory in the 100 back by nearly seven seconds to help Jersey Shore defeat Shamokin, 105-57.

Veronica Sander (200 free) and Taylor Fleming (100 free) also earned wins for the Bulldogs.

• In boys swimming, Jersey Shore cruised to a 101-12 win against Shamokin.

Alex Butzler and Artie Dammer both won two individual events. Butzler won in the 200 IM and 100 back and Dammer won the 200 free and 100 breast.

Matthew Beard won two individual events and part of two winning relay teams, but Williamsport fell to Central Columbia, 103-73. Beard won the 50 and 100 freestyle in 22.62 and 49.71 seconds, respectively.

Beard was part of the 200 medley relay team with Devon Shank, Riley Hockman and Josh Bonislawski. Hockman, Bonislawski, Beard and Jack Beattie swam a 3:31.05 to win the 400 freestyle relay.

• Loyalsock’s Sarah Van Fleet pulled down 20 rebounds to limit Southern Columbia’s second-chance opportunities as the Lancers defeated the Tigers, 51-43, to reach 18 wins in girls basketball.

Maddie Fox led the Lancers with 13 points and Summer McNulty scored 12.

Kailee Heimrich scored a team-high 12 points and Fondrea McClain added 10, but Williamsport lost to Mifflin County on the road, 65-50.

The Millionaires led at halftime, 29-28, but Mifflin County outscored Williamsport by nine in the third to pull away.

Hughesville defeated Bloomsburg, 37-28. Jade Cordrey led the Spartans with 14 points, Alex Snyder added 11.

Muncy fell to Millville, 46-33. Aleaha Bigelow had a team-high 10 points and Bella Fave scored nine.

South Williamsport fell to Mount Carmel, 50-38. Megan Weber had a team-high 21 points and Alyssa Johnson scored 13.

Lydia Albert scored 19 points, but Montoursville fell to Central Columbia, 52-37.

Cowanesque Valley fell to Northern Potter, 49-41. Jessie Hummel led CV with 12 points and Abby Ackley scored ten.

• Duncan Zeafla had a team-high 23 points as North Penn-Liberty defeated Cowanesque Valley, 63-42. Logan Horsley scored 10 points. Christian Kemp led CV with 13 points and Owen Fitzwater scored 10.

Wellsboro beat Towanda, 69-48. Brandyn Tuttle and Andrew Brelo led Wellsboro with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Joseph Grab and Holden Kennedy each scored seven.

North Penn-Mansfield defeated Athens, 57-46, as Dylan Meyer scored 16 points. Jacob Green and Sawyer Freeman each scored ten.

Millville beat South Williamsport, 57-35. Pete Sinibaldi led the Mounties with 12 points.

• Lane Stutzman and Cameron Wood recorded back-to-back falls at 220 and 285 pounds as Montoursville posted a 48-27 win over Benton in high school wrestling. Dylan Bennett and Broc Lutz added falls for the Warriors.

Colby Puderbach and Kaide Drick finished off Montgomery’s 47-12 win over Sayre with a pair of decision victories. The Red Raiders also picked up falls from Ben Marino, Gabe Wright, Dan Beckley, Blake Snyder and Devon Deem.

Ryan Kershner and Kyle Tomb scored consecutive falls to help Jersey Shore to an early lead, but Shikellamy recorded four six-point wins in the final seven bouts in a 38-22 win. The Braves also got a key win when Evan Bingaman defeated state placewinner Hunter O’Connor, 12-6, at 182 pounds.s
