Local roundup: Loyalsock boys tennis improves to 10-3

Loyalsock defeated Bloomsburg in boys tennis, 4-1, Wednesday afternoon. The Lancers’ Quinn Deitrick won at No. 3 singles against Ellis Aikey, 6-0, 6-0.

Loyalsock’s Jake Bomboy won at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2, as the Lancers improve to 10-3.

South Williamsport lost to Central Columbia, 4-1. Logan Ogden and Trent Morrison earned the Mounties’ only victory at No. 2 doubles, winning 2-6, 7-6 (4), 10-8.

Cole Temple (No. 2 singles) and Sawyer Fisher (No. 3 singles) each picked up three-set wins and David Han and Cole Casimir teamed up for a superset tiebreaker win at No. 1 doubles as Lewisburg defeated Montoursville, 5-0.

Logan Burns and Spencer Thomas took the top two singles spots to lead Hughesville to a 3-2 win over Mifflinburg.

Eric Counsil and Kyle Wagner each won their No. 1 and 2 singles matches, respectively, but Milton fell to Selinsgrove, 3-2.

• In high school baseball, St. John Neumann fell to Millville, 10-0 in five innings. The Golden Knights combined for just three hits from Solomon Grant, Jaiden Cioffi and Jeff Hamilton.

Montoursville dropped its first game of the season in a 6-5 loss to Mifflinburg. Nolan Kutney went 3 for 4 with a double and two runs scored. Josh Burger had two hits.

Brayden Strouse threw four innings of two-hit relief, striking out five, and Montgomery scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to come back for a 4-2 win over CMVT.

Peyton Johnson went 2 for 3 and Aaron Swartz was 2 for 4 with an RBI as Central Mountain defeated Danville, 5-4.

The Wildcats scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to earn the walk-off win.

Aaron Best hit a three-run, seventh-inning home run but Jersey Shore could not complete a big comeback and lost 5-4 at Milton.

Warrior Run lost in five innings to Southern Columbia, 11-1. The Defenders were held to three singles.

Brandyn Choplosky threw a complete-game five-hitter to lead North Penn-Mansfield to a 3-1 win over Troy.

The Loyalsock baseball team erupted for 15 hits and thumped defending District 4 Class AAAA champion Lewisburg, 18-1 in four innings. Chase Cavanaugh and Connor Watkins combined on a two-hitter and Watkins added two hits. Dane Armson went 4 for 4 with a triple and double. Alex Schluter, Nick Barone and Rees Watkins all had two hits each.

Hollidaysburg swept a doubleheader from Williamsport, taking the first game, 7-3, and the second contest, 3-2 in eight innings. Drake Mankey had two strong games for the Millionaires (4-3), going 5 for 8 with a double and two RBIs.

Jon Zayas and Riley Hilner combined on a three-hitter in the second game and Colin Esposito hit an RBI single. Hilner and Brayton Rowello had two hits each in the opening game.

• Jersey Shore scored six runs in its final three innings to take control of the game and defeat Mifflinburg, 7-2, in high school softball to claim sole possession of first place in the HAC-I.

Kylie Russell three seven strong innings and Breanna Herman (3 for 4 RBI, run), Lexi Schuler (2 for 2 double, RBI) and Russell (2 for 3, RBI) all had multi-hit games.

Savannah Doney struck out 12 and allowed only one earned run, but an error allowed two seventh-inning runs to score as Troy defeated North Penn-Liberty, 3-2. Mariah Kshir, Mackenzie Heater and Shaelyn Berguson all picked up two hits for the Mounties.

Sam Stopper homered, doubled and drove in four runs as Loyalsock won its fifth straight game, scoring 12 runs over the last two innings in a 17-7, five-inning victory at Bloomsburg.

Summer McNulty, Juliana Cruz, Cassie Gee and Teghan Taylor all had two hits each as Loyalsock rallied from a two-run, fourth-inning deficit. Cruz, McNulty and Taylor each had two RBIs and the Lancers (8-2, 4-0) won their fifth straight game.

• In college baseball, Rylan Whitmyer drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift Penn College to an 8-7 win over Mount Aloysius.

Richard Lennon reached on a fielder’s choice in the 11th and moved to third after walks to Brayden Lippert and Conner Burke, setting up Whitmyer’s patience at the plate.
