Ferry, Tran earn silver in doubles tourney
Williamsport senior Liam Ferry and junior Amani Tran ended their season with silver medals after losing in the finals of the District 2-4 Class AAA tennis doubles championships at the Wyoming Valley Indoor Tennis Club on Thursday.
The Millionaires’ duo lost 6-3, 6-2 to the second-seeded team of Harsh Patel and Mit Patel of Scranton. Ferry and Tran, the number one seed, had quick victories on their journey to the finals, defeating Wallenpaupack, 6-3, 6-4, in the first round and defeating Wyoming Valley West, 6-0, 6-0, in the quarterfinals Wednesday at Kirby Park.
In the semifinals Thursday afternoon, the Millionaires’ pair — who both played singles in the regular season — rolled right over Delaware Valley with a 6-3, 6-1 win. Williamsport teammates Simon Wallace and Ty Baker were knocked out in their first round by Abington Heights on Wednesday.
Thursday’s competition ends the 2019 boys’ tennis season for Williamsport.
