Local roundup: Neill pitches Montoursville major baseball past Hepburn Lycoming

Zac Neill threw a complete game on 84 pitches, allowing only eight hits and issuing no walks in Montoursville’s 11-3 win against Hepburn Lycoming in the major baseball tournament.

Brayden McCourt went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and broke the game open with a bases-loaded double in the fourth inning.

Nate Bear (2 for 3), Royce Bowe (2 for 3, 2 RBIs) and Logan Kirby (2 for 4) all had two hits.

Loyalsock defeated East Lycoming, 10-7, to advance to the quarterfinals,

Jeremiah Johnson went 3 for 4 to lead Loyalsock and Preston Gross and John Kiehl both added two hits each. Gross had a double and triple. East Lycoming was led by Jed Abernatha, who went 3 for 4.

Trent Wetzel and Keagan Smith both had two hits each.

Loyalsock scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-1 lead and never trailed East Lycoming the remainder of the game.

Loyalsock out-hit East Lycoming, 13-8, as well.

• In major softball, Clinton defeated East Lycoming, 14-3, in the losers’ bracket to advance to the district championship game against South Williamsport.

That game is Thursday at Clinton at 6 p.m. If Clinton wins, a rematch is set for Friday at South Williamsport.
