Golf tip of the week: Creating backspin

PHOTO PROVIDED Stare at the front of the ball and hit the ball on the equator.

Most golfers think backspin is induced by taking a vast divot, but that’s not the case. The only requirement for hitting a golf ball with backspin is making contact with the ball first.

There are, however, golfers that take large divots but it’s not necessary to create backspin.

For example, if you were to place a string underneath the center of a golf ball and hit the ball, the string would remain in its resting place after the club contacts the ball.

If you have trouble creating backspin, try staring at the front of the golf ball, this will help you hit the ball on the equator with a descending blow, forcing the ball to roll up the face of the club and spin backward, it requires approximately 8,500 RPM to stop a golf ball on the green.

Don’t forget to enjoy this great game called golf.
