Golf tip of the week: Throw something to feel the proper finish

PHOTO PROVIDED Duplicate the feel of your practice swing when hitting the ball.

Throwing an object such as a baseball or stone will give you the proper feel for a correct follow through.

Golfers that have trouble finishing the swing can quickly perfect an excellent follow through by duplicating the feel and motion of throwing a baseball. I find that completing the golf swing is nothing more than breaking old habits. The follow-through is essential in any sport, be it throwing a dart, football, etc.

You should finish on the outside of the left foot and the toe of the right foot, opposite feet for the left-hand golfer. Finish the swing with the hips, knees, and shoulders parallel to the ground.

I find most golfers finish their swing quite well when taking practice swings. Repeat that same motion when striking the ball.

A golf shot is not complete until you are facing the target with good balance and posture. The backswing and downswing should be a smooth acceleration and not an abrupt change of direction.

Don’t forget to enjoy this great game called golf.
