Local roundup: Pombor helps LHU men’s soccer win

Tom Pombor recorded the first goal of his career in Lock Haven’s 4-0 win over Felician in the Bald Eagle home opener on Sunday. Matthew McDermott assisted Pombor in the 69th minute of the game. Andrew Moore scored the opening goal in the 9th minute. Recording goals in the second half for the Bald Eagles were Ivo Klaric, Pombor, and Matt Botros. Jason Keller was called upon only once recording one save.

• The Lock Haven women’s soccer team kicked off the 2019 season playing to a 0-0 tie against Mercyhurst. Lock Haven recorded 10 shots and Merchyhurst recorded 12 of their own. With the tie, Bald Eagle head coach Maggie Kuhn earns her first point in her Lock Haven debut.

Abby Gearhart scored her first collegiate goal in the 84th minute to lift Bucknell to a 2-1 victory over Towson.

A game-tying goal in the 86th minute by Elle Sarracco helped Lycoming women’s soccer team post a 1-1 tie in double overtime at Mount Aloyisus College. Jess Riordan finished with four saves in the full 110 minutes for the Warriors.

Mansfield lost, 4-0, to Daemen in its home opener. Brooke Loveland, Breanna Murphy, Alexis Bittel and Koryn Reinhart each recorded a shot on goal for the Mounties.

• In women’s field hockey, Lock Haven fell to Cornell, 3-2, in double overtime. Lock Haven got goals from a pair of freshmen in Jazmin Palma and Megan Weeks.

Dana Evans scored her first career hat trick to lead Mansfield to a 7-1 win over Southern Connecticut State in the final game of the Delta Hotel Classic tornament. T

• In women’s tennis, South Williamsport grad and Lycoming tennis player Hannah Summerson and Aubrey Chambers finished third in the No. 1 doubles flight at the King’s Women’s Invitational. Summerson and Chambers defeated King’s Emily Fernandez and Alexis Zalutko, 8-3.

• In girls volleyball, North Penn-Liberty swept the Union Endicott Tournament to win the championship match against Horseheads. Maddison Minyo reached her 500th career kill. JoAnna McNamara had 40 assists and 14 points.

•Boosted by a pair of 1-under-par 71s from Jason Lohwater and Chris Tanabe, the Bucknell men’s golf team posted the best final-round score in the field and vaulted up the leaderboard to a second-place finish at Colgate’s Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational. After starting the day in a tie for seventh place, the Bison closed with a 1-over 289 team total and got within three strokes of Cornell, which held on to win the title.

Sunday was a tough scoring day, with only six of the 18 teams in the field even breaking 300. But the Bison saved their best for last, following up Saturday’s rounds of 299 and 295 with the 289 to finish at 883 over 54 holes. Cornell, which posted 304, finished with an 880 total.
