3 with Lycoming ties set for induction into the West Branch Hall of Fame

The first player to have his number retired by the Lycoming College football program, Rick Burd, will headline a strong group of nine inductees, including three that have ties to Lycoming College, in the 2019 West Branch Valley Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame class, which will be honored at the Genetti on Sunday, Nov. 10.

Joining Burd in the induction class is former field hockey and swimming coach Janis Arp and Jim Arp, who has served as a time and scorekeeper at Lycoming College in a variety of sports.

Burd was the signal caller for Lycoming’s first MAC Championship team in 1978, the first of several honors earned in his career. A 1980 honorable mention AP Little All-America quarterback and the 1979 MAC Northern Division MVP, Burd was a three-time first-team All-MAC quarterback from 1978-80.

Janis Arp was the coach of the field hockey team from 1984-90, setting the program record with 24 career wins, and the coach of the swimming team from 1986-90. Arp participated at the US Swimming Olympic Trials in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke in 1964 as a senior at Williamsport High School.

Jim Arp worked in a variety of roles within the athletic department, serving as a timer at football games since 1990, a scorekeeper at basketball games since 1995 and he also worked the shot clock at both men’s and women’s lacrosse games in 2019. He has also served as a scoreboard operator and public address announcer with the softball program.

The induction class also includes living inductees Bob Crawford, Kelly Mazzante, Trap McCormack, Mark Mussina and Mike Vuocolo. The deceased inductee is Gene Depew and the Volunteer of the Year is Max Dell.
