CV’s Outman finishes 2nd at PIAA golf

HERSHEY — Cowanesque Valley’s Austin Outman shot a 70 Tuesday in the second round of the PIAA Class AA boys individual golf tournament to finish with a 147, three strokes behind Riverside’s Skyler Fox, to finish in second.

It’s the highest area finish since T.J. Howe of Elkland tied for first in 2005. It is also the 40th instance of a District 4 player finishing in the top 10 at the state tournament. He joined Bloomsburg’s Morgan Sohosky (T-5th, 2018) and Wellsboro’s Benjamin Barnett (T-5th, 2018) as recent Top 5 finishers.

It’s also the 17th time a District 4 golfer has placed 5th or better.

Wellsboro’s Ty Morral finished in a four-way tie for 17th place after shooting a 79 for a 163 overall.

In the girls Class AA tournament, Lewisburg’s Ava Markunas shot a 92 in the second round for a 190 overall to finish in 17th.
