Local roundup: WAHS XC sends 4 runners to PIAAs

The District 2-4 subregional cross country championships were held at Lakeland on Wednesday and Williamsport had success by sending four runners to the state tournament.

On the boys side, Williamsport junior J. Henry Lyon earned the district gold with a winning time of 16:23. Senior Owen Mahon finished fourth overall and freshman Ethan Holcomb secured the last district medal with a 10th-place finish.

The boys’ team was down a varsity runner because of injuries, but adjustments were made and the boys finished as district runners-up, two points behind Hazelton.

On the girls side, senior Lydia Smith secured her trip to her second cross country state championship in Hershey with a second-place finish. The girls team finished third.

Both teams won HAC-I league titles and finished their seasons with records of 17-2 (boys) and 16-3 (girls).
