Pombor gives Millionaires reason to celebrate — 3 times

Jimmy Pombor needed just seven minutes to have a reason to celebrate when he found the net on a corner kick from Amani Tran at the Balls Mills Soccer Complex.

Pombor had the opportunity to celebrate a goal of his own two more times on his way to a hat trick and a 4-0 Millionaire win over Central Mountain on Monday.

The energy from the opening kick seemed to instantly favor Williamsport as their communication echoed and drowned out the Wildcats as they rolled their way to a victory.

“Communication was a lot better tonight than it has been. We’re constantly preaching to the guys ‘talk the other team off the field’. Things won’t seem as difficult individually and as a collective team if we communicate,” Williamsport coach Lee Kaar said.

The Wildcats struggled to maintain possession against the very aggressive Millionaire squad. The Wildcats were able to force five shots on goal in the first half, though they were few and far between, and only one was a legitimate threat at chopping down the lead.

The Wildcats came out in the second half more in-tune and aggressive, but by that point Pombor got a chance to net his third goal of the night and deflate Central Mountain’s comeback hopes.

“Well we didn’t get enough pressure early enough,” Central Mountain coach Billy Hook. “They have the recent history and success, we don’t have that. For our guys to compete and see that we can get there is what they’re motivated to do and try to start that process for us and try to get to the point where we can say we’re that kind of program.”

Williamsport is trying to continue their dominating district run for the fourth consecutive year and Kaar would like to keep it simple.

“I thought we were trying to get too cute inside 25 yards, we had great runs off the ball tonight, good movement, I just thought that final touch was too cutesy,” Kaar said. “Square up, make your pass, move off the ball and keep going.”
