Local roundup: Mader scores 22 in Lyco women’s loss

Senior Morgan Mader led the Lycoming College women’s basketball team with a career-high 22 points, but Drew University used a strong third quarter to get past Lycoming, 74-63, in the championship game of the Rose City Classic on Saturday afternoon.

Mader was one of three Warriors (1-1 overall) to finish in double figures, as she hit 5 of 6 from 3-point range and 7 of 9 overall, also adding four rebounds and two assists. Junior Erica Lutz posted 10 points and 10 rebounds for her 10th career double-double and senior Kayla Kline added 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Lewisburg grad Akilah McFadden was named to the all-tournament team after posting six points, seven assists, three steals and two blocks.

Penn College lost to Alvernia, 61-34. The Wildcats were led by Montoursville grad Lydia Albert’s nine points. Keyona Shoff added eight.

• In men’s basketball, Lock Haven defeated Chestnut Hill on the road, 78-61. Christian Kelly had 20 points. Matt Cerruti and Jesse McPherson scored 18 and 12 points, respectively.

Penn College lost to Rosemont College, 87-80, to fall to 1-1. Loyalsock grad Ben Sosa led the Wildcats with a 19-point performance and Carson Garvis added 10. Fred Young had a team-high 10 assists and eight points.

• Lycoming senior Kaylee Long, a Milton grad, finished in the top 100 at the NCAA Mideast Regionals for the second time in her career and four Lycoming College cross country runners set career-bests to highlight the day at Lehigh University’s cross country course.

• Senior Cara Zortman led the Lycoming College swimming teams with a pair of individual wins and a relay win, but Messiah College was able to sweep a pair of Middle Atlantic Conference duals with Lycoming, winning on the women’s side, 153-89, and on the men’s side, 189-61. The Warriors also won the 200-yard medley relay, with the team of sophomore Devon Kaiser, Brown, Zortman and senior Michaela Thode posting a time of 2:00.41.

Lock Haven lost to East Stroudsburg in women’s swimming, 155-93. Senior Kristin Allen was honored in the Bald Eagles’ final home dual meet. Allen won the 200 fly (2;23.82), besting second place by nearly 10 seconds.

• In men’s cross country, Penn College’s Matt Leiby ended 208 out of 360 in 28:31 to pace the Wildcats in a 37th-place finish at the NCAA Division 3 Mideast Regional championship. Muncy grad Johan Isaacson ran a 29:14.60 and Central Mountain’s Reagan McCoy finished in 29:43.70.

• In women’s cross country, Penn College was last among 49 teams at the NCAA Division 3 Mideast Regional championship. Montoursville’s Katie Plankenhorn finished in 29:28.70 and Blossburg native Brittany Weiskopff ran in 31:16.90.

• Penn College lost to Centenary, 47-4, and Ursinus, 42-10, in a tri-meet in college wrestling. Penn College’s Dylan Gettys won against Centenary with a 9-1 major decision at 165 pounds for the only Wildcat win.
