Kegler’s Korner: Local bowlers finish among leaders in PSBA state seniors tournament

Congratulations to the following local bowlers who finished among the leaders in the recently completed PSBA state seniors tournament which included six age classes: Muncy No. 1 team (2nd place, handicapped team event); Steve Durkee (5th place, Class 2 scratch 9 game, all events); Brenda Welshans (8th place, Class 5 handicapped singles event); George Walton (8th place, Class 3 scratch singles event); Karla Anderson (9th place, Class 3 scratch All Events).

Welshans also finished among the leaders in the 6 game and 9 game all events in her class. These results are still unofficial as found on the PSBA web site.

Locally, Ryan Koser was high man last week when he shot a 783 in the Monday Night Classic at Harvest Moon. Bob Fidler had a 300 game in that same league. Amanda Heck led all local ladies for the second straight week with a 682 series in the Monday Night Classic and then rolled the high female game of the week: a 238 the next night in the Intercommunity League (Harvest Moon).

This week we remember local Hall of Famer Lillian Myers. Myers was a member of the first black women’s team to bowl locally and in the state tournament and to be sanctioned by the WIBC. In her 28-year bowling career — which started at age 35 and ended due to arthritis in her knee and hip — Myers recorded a high average of 178, a high series of 631, a high game of 259 and won a bowler of the week title. She helped teach handicapped girls how to bowl and kept score for the city and junior bowling tournaments, while also serving on many committees as a board member for the Williamsport Women’s Bowling Association. Lillian was inducted into the local Hall of Fame in 1993.
