Local roundup: Lewisburg loses to Midd-West, 42-30, in wrestling

Broghan Persun scored an upset decision for Lewisburg over Midd-West regional qualifier Josh Rodriguez, but the Mustangs picked up a fall in the final bout to defeat the Green Dragons, 42-30, in high school wrestling Thursday.

Persun defeated Rodriguez, 7-4, and Kaiden Wagner added a 12-0 major decision over district sixth-place finisher Ethan Zevan at 126 pounds.

Christian Niemczyk posted a fall in 1:14 at 170 pounds and Muncy earned seven wins by fall in a 64-15 win over CMVT. Dylan Sharr had a fall at 132 and Gavin Hillman had one in 50 seconds at 285 for the Indians.

Cameron Wood secured a 22-second pin as Montoursville routed Central Columbia, 56-15. Emery Balint, Caleb Moser, Brandon Wentzel and Cole Johnson each collected pins at their respective weights. Isaac Kester defeated James Batkowski at 138 pounds.

South Williamsport collected four pins and Loyalsock had three as the Mountaineers benefitted from forfeits in a 54-18 win over the Lancers. Mountaineer 195-pounder Samuel Hostrander began the night with a 29-second pin over Carter Secora. Jae Casella (220), Landon Lorson (152), and Nathan Conser (160) each picked up six point wins. James Shearer (285), James Gibbs (126) and Jacob Huber (138) pinned for Loyalsock.

• In girls basketball, Jessica Robinson scored 12 points, Kayla Wilson added 10 and Sophia Erb scored nine in Williamsport’s 59-51 win over Crestwood at home.

The Millionaires (2-2) led by 12 after the first quarter.

Williamson lost to Northeast Bradford, 70-19. Lateisha Peterson led Williamson with an 11-point performance.

Northeast Bradford led 33-10 at the half.

North Penn-Mansfield fell to Athens, 46-40. JoAnne McNamara and Jaime Palmer both scored nine points. Palmer added nine rebounds and Elizabeth Welch scored five points and five rebounds.

• Davion Hill and Malaki Parlante each had a team-high 12 points as St. John Neumann defeated Mid-Penn conference rival Bucktail, 66-27, in boys basketball.

Keon Burkholder, David Hill and Brady McKimpson each had six points. Dylan Cross led the Bucks with 11 points.
