College roundup: Second half sputter dooms Mansfield

After a tied game at halftime, Millersville outscored Mansfield, 51-24, in the second half, fueled by Ryan Davis’ 20 points as Mansfield fell, 84-57. Christian Simmons paced the Mounties in scoring with 13 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. Garrett Cook splashed a pair of 3-pointers on his way to eight points with Eli Alvin also adding eight. Jaz Farrell chipped in seven points.

Penn College won its third-straight game with a 74-60 victory over Gallaudet in a North Eastern Athletic Conference game. Carson Garvis led the Wildcats with an 11-point, 12 rebound double-double. Elijah Vazquez had a team-high 19 points and Damon Kreider scored 17 points.

Andrew Funk had a career-high 22 points as Bucknell beat Loyola (Md.) 98-83 on Saturday night.

Funk shot 8 for 10 from the floor. He added six rebounds.

Jimmy Sotos had 14 points for Bucknell (9-12, 5-3 Patriot League). Walter Ellis added 13 points. John Meeks had 10 points.

The 98 points were a season best for Bucknell.

Isaiah Hart had 18 points for the Greyhounds (9-12, 1-7), whose losing streak reached seven games. Andrew Kostecka added 18 points. Golden Dike had 13 points.

• Sydney Reed drained a 3 with 5 seconds remaining to put the Mounties within one, but it would not be enough as Mansfield fell to Millersville, 63-60, in women’s basketball. Paige Whitfield dished out seven assists with seven rebounds in addition to six points. Reed finished with 12 points and Paeglow posted 11 points and six assists.

Penn College fell, 76-65, to Gallaudet in a North Eastern Athletic Conference action. Ja’Quela Dyer finished with a 16-point, 19-rebound double-double. Madison Klock and Lydia Albert each added 11 points as Klock had a team-high seven assists.

• In college swimming, Bucknell completed a 10-1 dual meet season with a 166-132 victory over Lehigh. Bucknell handed the Mountain Hawks their first loss of the season behind 10 individual event victories. Six Bison accounted for those wins, with Emma Hadley (100, 200 back), Catherine Craig (100, 200 breast), Alexis Faria (100, 200 fly) and Abby Merriman (500, 1,000 free) securing sweeps in their respective disciplines. Maddie Hartigan won the 200 free while Maggie Wyngowski outraced the field in the 400 IM.

Lock Haven fell to Kutztown, 142-106. Lily Arledge won both the 100 and 200 breast. Arledge took first place in the 100 with a time of 1:14.01 and the 200 breast in 2:42.11. Kristin Allen won the 200 back with a time of 2:21.12.

• Terrance Quaker, Momadue Diallo, Christian Tanner, and Caden Fisher teamed up to run the fastest indoor 1,600 relay in Mansfield school history to put an exclamation point on a day that witnessed three top eight finishes, nine PR’s and two PSAC qualifying times at the Spire Institute’s Midwest Open. quaker, Diallo, Tanner, and Fisher finished the 1,600 relay in 3:24.09 breaking the previous record set in 2008.
