Local roundup: Bigelow grabs 500th career board; Muncy tops CMVT

Muncy clinched a District 4 playoff berth with a 59-27 win over CMVT and Muncy’s Aleaha Bigelow reached a milestone by grabbing her 500th career rebound. Bigelow had a huge double-double with a career-high 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Jessica King posted a near triple-double with 23 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks in Sullivan County’s 48-38 win against Benton. Sophia Springman added a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double with six steals and six assists.

Galeton defeated Smethport, 20-18, in a low-scoring contest. Cara Parsell and Jessie Evans led Galeton with six points each and Parsell added eight rebounds. Lauren Sauley had six boards and six steals.

Mackenzie Weaver hit five 3-pointers and had a team-high 19 points to propel Montoursville to a 55-47 win over Lewisburg. Mackenzie Cohick had 11. Jamie Fedorjaka led Lewisburg with 21.

Loyalsock picked up a big win over Mount Carmel, 45-40. Cassie Gee led the way with 16 points. Sophia Gardner had 12 and Summer McNulty chipped in 11.

Montgomery dropped a close one to Millville, 54-47. Riley Fry led the way for the Red Raiders with 14 and Nita Imeri had 12.

St. John Neumann picked up its first win of the season in a 31-24 contest with Bucktail. Sheiana Tutler led the way with 10 points and Maria Helminiak had nine.

Jersey Shore defeated Milton, 51-36. Aubrey Stetts scored 17 for the Bulldogs.

Jordan Hartman scored 24 points, all coming from 3-pointers, as Warrior Run lost to Shamokin, 57-55.

• In boys basketball, Canton defeated Northeast Bradford, 57-49. Isaiah Niemczyk scored a team-high 16 for Canton.

Noah Spencer scored 16 points, Brandon Thompson added 10 and North Penn-Liberty defeated Sayre, 52-49. Thompson added nine points.

St. John Neumann played outstanding second-half defense, allowing just 16 points and Davion Hill scored 28 points as it rallied for a hard-fought 53-50 win at defending District 4 Class AA champion Millville.

The Knights (12-2, 8-0 Mid-Penn) overcame a seven-point halftime deficit and swept Millville for the first time since 2017. David Hill scored 15 points and Neumann held Millville to single digits in both the third and fourth quarters.

• In girls swimming, Bloomsburg defeated Jersey Shore, 104-79. Meaghan Keegan won the 200 IM in 2:25.34, winning by roughly two seconds. Veronica Sander won in the 50 free.

Warrior Run’s Brilee Slodysko set two new season bests at Danville, finishing the 50 free in 32.10 and 100 free in 1:12.12. Sophomore Jayla Felix swam the 100 breast for the first time and finished in 1:23.06, 1.06 seconds shy of qualifying for districts.

• In boys swimming, Jersey Shore lost to Bloomsburg, 88-54. The Bulldogs didn’t win any events, however Alex Butzler did have two second-place finishes in the 50 and 100 free.

• Montgomery secured its spot in the District 4 Duals with a 30-21 win over South Williamsport in high school wrestling, eliminating South in the process. Montgomery’s Bradley Leon pinned Kyle Benson in just 36 seconds at 285 pounds. South’s Robert Gardner had a 10-3 win by decision over Blake Snyder at 120.

Milton beat Lewisburg, 42-27. Milton’s Nevin Rauch (285 pounds) earned a win by pin in 12 seconds and Chase Hoffman (152) pinned his opponent in 1:48.

Montoursville beat Warrior Run, 51-19. Broc Lutz earned a pin at 126 pounds in 15 seconds. Warrior Run’s Noah Hunt pinned James Batkowski at 138 in 3:01.

Central Mountain won the HAC-I title as the Wildcats kept their HAC-I unbeaten streak alive with a 36-30 win against Selinsgrove. Cyrus McCarl won for Central Mountain at 285 in 3:52.

Williamsport beat Danville, 63-18. Isaiah Harer pinned Nolan Coombe for the Millionaires at 132 in 3:23.

• In men’s basketball, Penn College led by 26 at the half and cruised to a 90-70 win against Penn State Berks. Ben Sosa led the Wildcats with a 21-point performance. Elijah Vazquez scored 18 and Carson Garvis added 16. Jesse White had a team-high 10 rebounds.

• Penn College was held to its second-lowest scoring game of the season in a 57-37 loss against Penn State Berks in women’s basketball. Tori Wolfe had a 12-point, 15-rebound double-double and Ja’Quela Dyer grabbed 15 boards as well. Loyalsock grad Cassi Kuhns led the Wildcats with 13 points.
