Local roundup: King, Springman lead Sullivan County girls

Jessica King and Sophia Springman both posted double-doubles as Sullivan County defeated Montgomery, 55-27, in girls basketball Thursday evening.

Springman had a 15-point, 13-rebound double-double and Jessica King had a 29-point, 16-rebound double-double. Both had five steals and two assists and King added three blocks.

Montgomery was led by Sheiana Tutler’s 13 points and Lily Reid added 12.

The Griffins held the Red Raiders to just one point in the second quarter.

Coudersport defeated Galeton, 55-25. Lauren Sauley and Alli Macensky led Galeton with six points each. Macensky added a team-high six rebounds and five blocks. Evans also had six boards.

Bucktail lost to Cameron County, 45-24. Katie Bresslin led Cameron County with 28 points. The Bucks were led by Myka Poorman’s eight.

Sophia Erb scored 15 points, but it wasn’t enough as Williamsport fell to Danville, 61-45, to drop to 4-9.

The Millionaires led by four after the first quarter, but Danville outscored Williamsport in the fourth, 24-6.

• In boys basketball, North Penn-Liberty defeated Cowanesque Valley, 92-52, as Colton Litzelman posted a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double for Liberty.

Seth Huyler led Cowanesque with 15 points and Ben Cooper scored 10.

North Penn-Liberty was led by Noah Spencer’s 17 points. Duncan Zeafla added 16 and Brandon Thompson scored 15. Kevin Alexander added 12.

Athens built a 16-point lead in the first quarter and cruised to a 72-52 win against North Penn-Mansfield.

Mansfield was led by Curtis Craig’s 16 points and Logan Tokarz, who scored 10. Aaron Lane scored 22 for Athens and Mason Lister added 18.

David Hill scored 17 points, Davion Hill added 14 and St. John Neumann cruised to a 67-39 win against Southern Columbia. Josiah Reid scored 11 and Malaki Parlante scored 10.

Liam Manning scored 21 points, Conner Adams added 17 and Wellsboro beat Towanda, 64-51, in a Northern Tier matchup.

Joe Grab added 10 for the Green Hornets.

Isaiah Niemczyk scored 12 points in Canton’s 62-50 win over Williamson.

• Williamsport defeated Montoursville, 115-16, in girls swimming. Amy Jarvis picked up two individual victories, winning the 50 free (26.81) and 500 free (5:53.07). Montoursville’s Jesie Hannah won the 100 back in 1:20.72. The Warriors’ Avery Winter also won the 100 breast (1:49.91).

Lewisburg defeated Shamokin, 102-64. Delaney Humphrey won in the 200 IM and 100 back and Jewels Hepner won in the 200 free.

Jersey Shore defeated Central Mountain, 87-83, as Jordan O’Connor and Meaghan Keegan both picked up two individual wins each. O’Connor won the 100 free and 50 free and Keegan earned wins in the 100 fly and 200 IM.

• In boys swimming, Williamsport defeated Montoursville, 91-54. Jack Beattie won the 100 back in 1:02.56 and helped the 200 medley relay team win in 1:48.40. Montoursville’s Angelo Silvagni won in the 50 free (23.54) and Blade Snyder earned a win in the 100 free in 1:02.15.

Lewisburg beat Shamokin, 99-36. Jack Drouin won in the 200 IM and helped the 200 medley and 400 free relay teams win.

Jersey Shore beat Central Mountain (39-27) and Penns Valley (58-14) in a tri-meet. Central Mountain beat Penns Valley, 40-22. Central Mountain won the 200 medley and 200 free relays and Leisher Gugino won for the Wildcats in the 200 IM and 100 breast.

Jersey Shore’s Alex Butzler picked up a win in the 200 free in 2:02.15.

• Canton captured its first Northern Tier League championship since 2005 with a 54-19 win over backyard rival Troy in high school wrestling. Chance Deljanovan posted a fall in 15 seconds at 195 pounds and Miah Lehman had a 6-3 win at 126 pounds. In a matchup of state-ranked 106-pounders, Troy’s Seth Seymour beat Canton’s Isaac Landis, 5-2.

Montoursville clinched the No. 1 seed for the District 4 Duals with a 67-12 win over Hughesville. Cole Johnson picked up a 6-0 win over Eli Olshefskie at 113 pounds.

Towanda won six of the match’s first eight bouts, five by fall to help post a 39-32 win over Warrior Run. Kaden Majcher posted a 9-4 decision over Tyler Hawley at 120 pounds.

South Williamsport rattled of nine consecutive six-point wins at one point as it defeated Sugar Valley, 60-12. Kyle Benson picked up a fall in 42 seconds at heavyweight, and Masen Lane had a 53-second fall at 152.

Riley Bremigen scored a fall for Lewisburg in the final bout to give the Green Dragons a much-needed 42-36 win over Danville. The win improves Lewisburg to 9-10 and it will need two wins in Saturday’s quad meet to qualify for the District 4 Duals.

• Lycoming College seniors Keith Batkowski, Cody Botts and Stephen Toczylousky each earned a spot on the Academic All-Middle Atlantic Conference football team, the organization office announced Thursday.

Botts started 31 straight games for the Warriors at left tackle. Batkowski rushed for 348 yards and a touchdown and caught 10 passes for 50 yards and a touchdown at the running back position. Toczylousky amassed 806 yards on 36 catches and six touchdowns, leading the Warriors in all three categories.
