Local roundup: Neumann boys qualify for districts

St. John Neumann qualified for the District 4 playoffs with a 68-30 rout of CMVT in boys basketball Wednesday night.

David Hill led the Golden Knights (11-2) with 19 points and Davion Hill added 13. Neumann led after one quarter, 29-6.

Bucktail defeated Benton, 53-33. Gabe Conway led the Bucks with an impressive 26 points and Liam Dwyer added 19.

Bucktail trailed by two after the first quarter before taking a 26-13 lead at the half.

Williamsport snapped a five-game losing skid with a 70-47 victory over Hollidaysburg.

The Millionaires (4-10) outscored Hollidaysburg, 28-8, in the third to pull away. Nassir Jones led Williamsport with 17 points, James Evans-McQuay added 14 and Elijah Frierson scored 10.

Mitchell Kratzer scored 20 for Hollidaysburg, 14 of which came in the first half.

Hughesville defeated Warrior Run, 46-39. Justus Lehigow scored 11 points and Blake Sherwood and Steele Evangelisti both scored eight points and Evangelisti had six steals.

Ahmahd Keyes led Warrior Run with 16 points and Kade Anzulavich scored 10.

Athens defeated Wellsboro, 71-57. Joe Grab led Wellsboro with 18 points and Darryn Callahan scored 10. Liam Manning had a near double-double of eight points and nine rebounds.

Southern Columbia defeated South Williamsport, 62-45. Ethan Laudenslauger scored 16 for the Mounties and Lee Habalar scored 13.

Loyalsock defeated Lewisburg, 63-57. Aiden Gair scored a team-high 25 for the Lancers and Idris Ali added 18. Lewisburg was led by Nick Shedleski’s 17 points and CJ Mabry’s 13.

Wyalusing defeated North Penn-Mansfield, 51-49. Dominic Garverick led Mansfield with 23 points and was the only Tiger to score in double digits.

Jake Simms scored 17 points and Hunter Shearer added 11 in Montoursville’s 60-51 win over Central Columbia.

North Penn-Liberty defeated Canton, 61-58. Cooper Kitchen scored 19 points for Canton and Benjamin Knapp added 12 points.

North Penn-Liberty’s Duncan Zeafla scored 15 points and Brandon Thompson added 14.

• Jessica King continued her impressive season with another double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds in Sullivan County’s 53-36 win over Millville in girls basketball. She added four blocks and an assist.

Sophia Springman also had a double-double for Sullivan County of 11 points, 12 rebounds and had four steals. Kassidy Beinlich had 11 points and eight boards and Sammy Albright had 14 points and seven boards.

Galeton defeated Austin on the road, 38-22. Jessie Evans led the Tigers with 10 points and Alli Macensky added nine points, eight rebounds, five blocks and a steal.

Evans had five steals, four rebounds and four assists. Lauren Sauley had a team-high 10 rebounds.

Sydney Hoffman scored 20 points and Emily McKee added 17 in Warrior Run’s 67-44 win against Juniata.

Gracy Beachel added 15 points for the Defenders.

• Penn State Harrisburg defeated Penn College, 100-52, in men’s basketball. The Wildcats were led by Carson Garvis (14 points) and Ryan Lockman (10). PSU Harrisburg hit 14 3-pointers in the win and had two players score at least 20 in Donyae Baylor-Carrol (29) and Nate Curry (20).

Senior Trevor English notched his seventh double-double of the season to lead Mansfield, but Kutztown used a hot-shooting night to earn a 77-63 home victory.

English recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds and senior Jahmir Green added 15 points, five rebounds and two steals. Junior Eli Alvin poured in 15 points and junior Christian Simmons contributed 11 points and six rebounds.

• Bucknell scored double digit points in all four quarters and outscored American by nine in the first quarter in a 68-43 win in Patriot League action at Sojka Pavilion in women’s basketball.

Ellie Mack had a near double-double for Bucknell with 16 points and eight rebounds. Abby Kapp added 14 points and Tessa Brugler scored 12.

American was led by Kaitlyn Marenyl’s 16 points and Maddie Doring’s 10.

Bucknell played well defensively, grabbing 25 defensive boards as American had just six offensive rebounds, limiting its second-chance points. American scored just three second-chance points in the loss.

Mansfield had four players reach double-figures and used a complete team effort to overcome an eight-point first half deficit, but PSAC East leading Kutztown University knocked down clutch shots late in the forth to come away with a 69-57 victory.

In just 24 minutes of action, freshman Jasmine Hilton scored 16 points and pulled in six rebounds while netting 8 of 15 shots of the field. Junior Paige Whitfield led the Mounties with seven rebounds to go with 12 points.

Penn State Harrisburg defeated Penn College, 73-69. The Wildcats were led by Madison Klock’s 17 points. Maci Ilgen added 15, Loyalsock grad Cassi Kuhns scored 13 and Ja’Quela Dyer had 12.
