Bucknell stays at top of PL with win in women’s basketball
LEWISBURG – After trailing early after the first quarter, Bucknell responded by outscoring Holy Cross each of the next three quarters to pull away for a 63-45 Patriot League win in women’s basketball at Sojka Pavilion on Wednesday night.
With the win, Bucknell improves to 19-6 overall and stays at the top of the league with a 12-2 mark. Colgate and Boston University are tied at second in the Patriot League at 10-4 each.
Bucknell held Holy Cross to 10 or fewer points in the first and third quarters and out-rebounded Holy Cross, 40-29.
Abby Kapp led the Bison with 16 points and both Ally Johnson and Ellie Mack scored 11.
Mack had a double-double off 11 points and 10 rebounds and Taylor O’Brien came up just shy of a double-double as she had eight points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Of her 11 boards, 10 were on the defensive end.
Holy Cross was led by Lauren Manis (14 points) as she was the only one in double figures.
After a 52-48 loss on Feb. 1 at Boston University, Bucknell has rattled off four consecutive wins and has held its opponents to under 50 points in two of those wins.
The Bison host Lehigh on Saturday at 2 p.m. before traveling to Colgate on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest. Bucknell returns to Sojka to host Boston University on Saturday, Feb. 29 (2 p.m.) and close the season at Lafayette on Wednesday, March 4 (7 p.m.)
