College roundup: Montoursville grad Albert has career-high 31 points in PCT’s loss

In women’s basketball, Montoursville grad Lydia Albert had a career-high 31 points for Penn College, but the Wildcats fell to Penn State Harrisburg, 74-63, Saturday.

Ja’Quela Dyer came up shy of a double-double as she had 12 points and nine rebounds. 

Shepherd defeated  Lock Haven, 72-56. Rileigh Devine led the Bald Eagles with 12 points and Ahnera Parker and Bink Redman both added 11. Parker had a double-double as she added 10 rebounds.

Freshmen Jasmine Perez (13 points) and Jasmine Hilton (10) each scored in double-figures to lead Mansfield, but West Chester University used a dominant scoring effort in the second half to earn a 79-52 PSAC East victory.

• Christian Kelly scored a team-high 24 points to help Lock Haven defeat Shepherd in men’s basketball, 83-66. Jesse McPherson added 15 points and Matt Cerruti scored 13.

Penn College fell to PSU Harrisburg, 99-81, in an NEAC battle. Elijah Vazquez scored 25 for the Wildcats and Loyalsock grad Ben Sosa added 20. Fred Young had 11.

Freshman Jaz Farrell scored a team-high 19 points to lead Mansfield, but West Chester benefited from a hot shooting night to leave Hollinger Field House with an 89-58 PSAC East victory.

Farrell made up the bulk of the Mountaineers’ offensive production, while knocking down 4 of 6 shots from 3-point range. Seniors Jahmir Green and Trevor English and junior Christian Simmons contributed eight points each.

• Senior 157-pounder Trevor Corl posted a major decision win to lead the Lycoming College wrestling team, which fell to seventh-ranked TCNJ, 35-4.

Sophomore Hunter O’Connor, a Jersey Shore grad, dropped a close 3-2 decision at 165 pounds and sophomore Connor Fulmer held a 4-3 lead late in the third period before giving up a takedown and back points in a 9-4 decision.

Penn College went 1-2 at its own quad meet, beating Lackawanna College (27-24) and losing to Oswego (38-7) and Washington & Jefferson (37-11).

“This weekend was tough on our guys. We took some injuries in (Friday’s) dual that resulted in three starters out of the lineup, and lost another in our first match (Saturday),” Penn College coach Jamie Miller said.

DJ Fehlman went 4-0 and claimed the 133-pound title to lead the way for the Lock Haven wrestling team at the Edinboro Open. Competing unattached at 157, Jonathan Ross was second overall.

Brock Port was fourth at 149, Austin Bell placed fourth at 165 and Parker McClellan finished fourth at 197.

• On Day 2 of the Bucknell Bison Open, Karina Long led the Bald Eagles by hitting PSAC marks in both the long and triple jumps. In the long jump, she placed second with a leap of 18-1 and was sixth in the triple jump (35-6).Warrior Run grad Rachel Grow was third in the 1,000-meter run in 3:21.43.

At Susquehanna’s SU Challenge, Mansfield freshman Shelby Alexander ran a personal record in the mile in 5:58.17 to earn a top-10 finish.

• In men’s track and field at the Bison Open, Mansfield’s Terrance Quaker ran the sixth-fastest 500-meter dash in school history with a time of 1:07.85 and freshman Christian Tanner had the 10th-fastest 3,000-meter run in school history (8:51.86).

• Junior Cara Zortman and freshman Katherine Brown won two events on the women’s side, while juniors Brandon Vought, Montoursville grad Dom Beradelli and freshman Matthew Michenfelder each won two events to cap Lycoming swimming’s meet vs. Marywood. The men won, 109-50, and the women won, 107-79.

At IUP’s Pidgeon Memorial Invitational, Lock Haven’s Kristin Allen finished the 100 fly in 1:03.09.
