Local roundup: WAHS girls advance to D2-4 6A final

Whitney Felix scored 15 points to help Williamsport defeat Wilkes-Barre Area by two points, 51-49, in the District 2-4 Class 6A semifinals at Berwick on Friday in girls basketball.

With the win, the Millionaires advance to play in the championship game Friday, Feb. 28, at Mohegan Sun in Wilkes-Barre.

Kailee Helmrich scored nine for Williamsport and Kaitlyn Wilson chipped in eight.

Warrior Run defeated East Juniata, 38-36, in the District 4 Class AAA quarterfinals. Sydney Hoffman led the Defenders with 12 points and Jordan Hartman added 11.

Jade Cordrey scored 15 points, but Hughesville couldn’t beat Bloomsburg and lost in the District 4 Class AAA quarterfinals, 40-29.

• Loyalsock grad Ben Sosa had a 12-point, 18-rebound double-double, but it wasn’t quite enough as Penn College fell on the road to Keuka, 95-88. Elijah Vazquez led the Wildcats (7-17, 5-10 NEAC) with 18.

Central Mountain grad Brody Baker and Carson Garvis both scored 12 and Ryan Lockman added 11.

• Ja’Quela Dyer scored 19 points and had a team-high 13 rebounds for Penn College, but the Wildcats fell to Keuka, 62-52, in women’s basketball. Loyalsock grad Cassi Kuhns scored 12.
