Local roundup: LHU wrestling trio earn Scholar All-American honors

Lock Haven University wrestlers DJ Fehlman, Kyle Shoop and Alex Klucker have been named 2019-20 National Wrestling Coaches’ Association Division I Scholar All-Americans, and as a team, the Bald Eagles ranked No. 22 among all NCAA Division I programs in team GPA.

The Bald Eagle trio was part of 175 total wrestlers honored by the NWCA with placement on the 2019-2020 Scholar All-American Team. The 175 student-athletes represented 63 institutions.

LHU’s team GPA of 3.22 ranked No. 22 among all Division I programs. Last season, Lock Haven ranked 26th in DI GPA and it marks the Bald Eagles’ fourth straight year in the top-30 nationally for team grade-point-average.

Fehlman, Shoop and Klucker — all redshirt-seniors –were without question a major part of LHU’s recent and overall success. Fehlman and Klucker were both three-time NCAA qualifiers while Shoop was a four-time qualifier.

• Two Lycoming College school-record holders — seniors Kayla Kline (softball) and South Williamsport grad Hannah Summerson (women’s tennis) — headline the list of six student-athletes selected to the Middle Atlantic Conference’s Spring Sportsmanship team.

Seniors Oliver Uy (golf), Max Crumlich (men’s lacrosse), Bailey Parchesky (women’s lacrosse) and freshman and Wellsboro grad Nate Redell (men’s tennis) were also named to the sportsmanship team.

Kline became the program leader in total bases (193) with a home run against Greenville.

Summerson became the program’s all-time doubles (44) and combined wins leader (93) in her final season while helping the women’s tennis team to a 3-4 record.

Uy competed in three events in the fall season, posting a career-low average of 134.67. He shot a season-best 133 at the Muhlenburg Invitational.

Crumlich appeared in 46 career games, winning 89 faceoffs and picking up 22 groundballs.

Parchesky is seventh in program history in victories as a goalkeeper and ninth with 143 career saves.

Redell went 3-2 at the No. 1 doubles slot with teammate Cody Greenaway in his Warriors’ debut season, helping the men’s tennis team to a 3-4 record.

• Lock Haven University inked its latest cross country and track and field athlete in Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy’s Myah Chappell. Chappell signed her national letter of intent via Zoom to attend Lock Haven in the fall.

“Myah, a cross country and track and field student-athlete, has decided to make a commitment to her future coaches and institution. Myah has worked hard, both on and off the field. She brought leadership to her team, was supportive, battled through injuries, and was committed to improving each day,” Saint Joseph’s Director of Athletics and Student Activities Dr. Justin Rodkey said in a statement. “No matter the weather outside, she found a way to work through the elements and often times had a smile on her face. Myah has remained resilient, persevered, and earned the opportunity to continue her career and pursue her dreams.”
