Mansfield’s Szentesy announces incoming class of 7 freshmen in men’s basketball
MANSFIELD — After making a four-win increase in conference competition last year, the Mansfield men’s basketball team is continuing their youth movement by bringing in an explosive recruiting class of seven, third-year coach John Szentesy announced.
The class, featuring three guards and three forwards from Pennsylvania, Virginia and New York look to replace six graduating seniors and four starters from last season.
“I’m thrilled about the quality of our incoming class,” Szentesy said. “They are very talented and will blend in very well with our returning guys. I’m most proud of the quality of student and great character of these young men.”
That incoming class is Scott Woodring (Waverly, N.Y.), Jason Thomas (Stafford, Va.), Manir Waller (Abington), Gabe Perez (Philadelphia), Graham Wooden (Oneonta, N.Y.), Samier Kinsler (Philadelphia) and Dashon Lewis (Philadelphia).
Woodring was a New York all-state player. Thomas earned Defensive Player of the Year honors in high school. Waller was a first-team All-League American Conference selection.
Perez won back-to-back Catholic League titles and won a state title at Roman Catholic. Wooden was a three-time all-state player. Kinsler and Lewis both played played on the NEBC Philly AAU team.
