Local roundup: 14U Central PA Bombers start 2-0 at USSSA World Series
The 14U Central Pennsylvania Bombers have started strong at the USSSA World Series in Florida, going 2-0.
The Bombers won their first two games, 9-3 and 6-4. Abby Robertson and Kendall McAnelly combined to pitch well in the opener and Jocelyn Jean and Kimmy Shannon produced similar strong pitching performances in the second game.
The team hit well throughout the lineup in the first game and Natayah Abdul-Hakim drove in three runs in the second game. Abdul-Hakim set the game’s tone when she hit a two-run first-inning single before adding an RBI grounder in the fourth inning. McAnelly also had a big game, going 2 for 2.
• Eleven of Lycoming’s 17 athletic programs will realign in the Middle Atlantic Conference beginning with the 2020-21 academic year, with the school’s men’s and women’s basketball, men’s golf, men’s and women’s lacrosse, softball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s tennis and women’s volleyball teams moving to the MAC Freedom.
The 11 sports will now compete in the MAC Freedom, along with Delaware Valley, DeSales, FDU-Florham, King’s, Misericordia, Stevens, Wilkes and fellow new member Arcadia. All 11 sports will feature an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships and eight of the team sports (except golf and tennis) will be fully sponsored by the conference, meaning the conference championship will include five participants.
