Kegler’s Korner: Tibbens’ 605 was area high women’s series
Last week’s high women’s series was rolled by Tiffany Tibbens with a 605 in the Sunday Night Social League at the ABC, beating out Christin Kiper, in the Walter Zeek Memorial at Faxon, by just two pins.
Christine DeGarmo’s 236, also in the Walter Zeek Memorial, was the best women’s game of the week. Shawn Pepperman bowled a 786 in the Monday Night Classic at Harvest Moon to lead the men, but his 298 was bested by Tim Day’s 300 in that same league, for the top male game of the week.
This week we remember Adele Williamson who was inducted into the local Hall of Fame in 1993. Williamson started bowling in the early 1930s, when the first women’s leagues were forming.
Encouraging all women to learn to bowl because she considered it a great sport, Williamson got many leagues started and taught many women to bowl. She recalled that in those days, the women had to bowl during the day, with and each bowler taking turns setting pins for the rest since there were few pin boys available during the day and the men had established priority for the use of the lanes at night.
There were also times when all team members shared one ball.
