Local roundup: Muncy wins own field hockey tournament Saturday

Muncy won its own field hockey tournament by defeating Benton, 2-0, in the championship game as Brooke Rishel and Hallie McClure scored. Muncy beat Southern Huntingdon, 3-0, in the opener as Bell HItesman, Hallie McClure and Markie Staib all recorded goals.

Muncy’s Lily Moyer (midfield), Isabelle Gush (midfield) and Markie Staib (defender) were named to the All-Tournament team and McClure was named Most Valuable Player.

Warrior Run beat Milton in overtime, 2-1, on senior day. Milton’s Anita Shek scored in the 4th minute with an assist by Kaitlin Mathias. Warrior Run then tied it with 1:36 remaining in the fourth quarter on a goal by Kyia Blouse.

Freshman Adelle Hunter scored her first varsity career goal in overtime to lift the Defenders to a win. Freshman goalie Hailey Carper was in goal for Warrior Run and recorded four saves while Milton goalie Lerissa Shearer had 12 saves.

Warrior Run honored its seniors in Brouse, Paige Foura, Brilee Slodysko, Emily Yoder, Angel Daniels, Rain Irvine and Madison Rovenolt.

• Lewisburg dominated Danville in boys soccer Saturday, 7-0, to improve to 3-0. James Koconis and Anthony Bhangdia both recorded two goals and an assist. The Green Dragons scored five second-half goals and didn’t yield a shot on goal to the Ironmen.

South Williamsport cruised to a 12-0 rout over Meadowbrook Christian. Hayden Swinehart recorded four goals, Ben Manning had three and Kayvan Shams scored twice. Alex Neidig, Caleb Jackson and Quaid Molino all found the back of the net.

The Mounties recorded 21 shots and Brock Weaver recorded the shutout.

Milton defeated Southern Columbia, 3-1, as Carter Lilley scored twice and Conner Smith added an assist . The Black Panthers held a 1-0 goal at the half and Milton and Southern combined for 26 shots on goal.

Hughesville scored the game’s first goal against Midd-West, but the Mustangs turned it on after that and cruised to a 12-1 rout over the Spartans. Hughesville was held to 1 shot as Midd-West fired 24. Kadin Fetterman had 12 saves for the Spartans.

Trace Neary scored five goals and Riley King scored twice in Sullivan County’s 10-6 win at home against Sayre. The Griffins held a 4-3 lead at the half.

Wellsboro cruised to a 12-1 rout over Towanda in a Northern Tier matchup. The Green Hornets led 11-0 at the half. Joe Grab scored five goals and Jack Poirier scored three times.

“In addition to five different players scoring, it was good to see the boys find ways to score from wide and central areas as well as set pieces,” Wellsboro coach Todd Fitch said. “I was also pleased that we took control of the match early and were able to get our younger boys time on the field.”

Millville blanked Muncy, 6-0. Eli Slamka recorded 16 saves for the Indians. Muncy was limited to just two shots on goal.

• Muncy and Montgomery battled to an exciting 1-1 double overtime tie in girls soccer Saturday morning. Lauren Anderson scored in the 49th minute for the Indians off an assist by Avery Bigelow to tie the game. Montgomery’s Morgan Tupper gave the Red Raiders an early 1-0 lead in the first half.

Abi Duck played exceptional in goal, recording 18 saves for Montgomery.

Bethany Beinlich and Chloe Burke both scored two goals in Sullivan County’s 5-3 win against Millville. Anna Springman added a goal for the Griffins.

South Williamsport blanked Meadowbrook Christian, 3-0. Olivia Casella, McKay Wilton and Elizabeth Manning all scored. Ella Loiselle, Payden Mathieson and Piper Minier had assists.

Hughesville beat Shamokin, 5-1. The Spartans held a one-goal lead at halftime before scoring three in the second half. Sophia Clark and Hailey Sherwood both scored twice and Cierra Getz added a goal.

North Penn-Mansfield’s Jaclyn Nelson scored for an early lead, but Athens would score four unanswered goals to win, 4-1. Mansfield fired 10 shots on goal.

• In girls tennis, Loyalsock defeated Jersey Shore, 4-1. Katie Savidge earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles over Sam Machmer.

• In cross country, South Williamsport defeated Sullivan County in boys competition, 17-39. There was no varsity girls race. Port Habalar won for the Mounties in 18 minutes, 25 seconds. South’s Evan Laudenslager took second in 18:56. They were the only two runners to break 19 minutes.
