Local roundup: Williamsport boys, girls cross country both beat Hughesville

Williamsport swept the girls and boys cross country meets Tuesday with the girls defeating Hughesville, 15-50, and the boys winning, 24-33. Emily Hale took first in the girls race in a time of 22 minutes, 58 seconds with teammates Katie Brue, Ellie Fisher, Alexa Radulski and Anna Harstead rounding out the top five. Henry Lyon won the boys race in a time of 17:09. Hughesville’s Hunter Foust was second in 17:43.

The Montoursville girls and Loyalsock boys were victorious in their tri-meets with each other and Central Columbia. Raya Pauling helped Montoursville down Central, 15-47, winning the girls race in 21:54. Loyalsock did not have enough runners to field a team score, but Emma Tredinnick took second in 22:15. Erin Witter, Alivia McDonald and Halie Mariott all finished in the top five for Montoursville. Loyalsock’s Andres Quintana led the Lancers to a sweep, taking the boys race in 17:34.

South Williamsport’s boys team swept a tri-meet from Cowanesque Valley and Sullivan County, winning 20-35 and 16-44, respectively. Port Habalar took first in 17:36, with teammates Evan Laudenslager (18:02) and Quaid Molino (19:18) finishing second and third.

Jacob Hess won with a time of 15:57, leading Lewisburg to a 19-42 boys win against Warrior Run. Warrior Run’s Caden Dufrene took second in 16:44 with the Lewisburg trio of Ginuluca Perrone, Tommy Hess and Connor Murray completing the top five.

On the girls side, Warrior Run beat Lewisburg, 18-38, as Lauren Trapani and Alyssa Hoffman finished 1-2 for the Defenders. Trapani won in 18:49 and Hoffman finished second a minute later. Lewisburg’s Sarah Mahoney took third.

• Bethany Beinlich continued her excellent season, scoring five goals and helping Sullivan County defeat Montgomery, 8-0. Chloe Burke also had a big game, scoring twice and adding three assists.

Hughesville fell to Southern Columbia, 4-0. The Spartans had 11 shots on goal and Lucy Myers recorded five saves.

• Zackary Wilcox scored twice and helped North Penn-Liberty overcome an early deficit as it defeated Sayre, 6-4, in boys soccer.

Montoursville’s Dominick Pulizzi and Mason Winslow both scored as the Warriors blanked Central Columbia, 2-0. Winslow and Dylan Muise also had assists.

Lewisburg beat Mifflinburg, 9-0, as the Green Dragons built a six-goal lead in the first half. Jack Dieffenderfer and Ben Liscum each had hat tricks. Lewisburg didn’t allow a single Mifflinburg shot on goal.

Luke Maddox, Brendan Geiger and Alex Hazzoum all scored for Warrior Run and the Defenders defeated Milton, 3-1. Brodey Scoggins scored the Black Panthers only goal off a penalty kick.

Hughesville managed just one shot on goal in a 4-0 loss to Southern Columbia. Kadin Fetterman recorded 13 saves for the Spartans (2-3).

• Clara Ulrich rallied for a thrilling three-set victory in No. 1 singles to help Montgomery defeat Muncy, 5-0, in girls tennis. After dropping the first set, Ulrich fought back to win the second set in a 7-3 tie-breaker before taking the final set, 7-5.

Towanda defeated North Penn-Liberty, 4-1. Emma Eglesia and Marissa Griess won at No. 1 doubles for Liberty, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
