Local roundup: Williamsport runners set personal bests in XC meet

Several Williamsport runners set personal records Tuesday as the Millionaires swept boys and girls meets against Loyalsock, 17-46 and 19-48, respectively. Henry Lyon set a blistering pace and won the boys race in a time of 15 minutes, 47 seconds. Ethan Holcomb (16:43), Gavin Furey (17:07) and Shaheen Hill (17:27) finished Nos. 2-4 and all ran fast races. Andres Quintara (17:43) and Dom Jennings (18:29) took fifth and sixth, respectively, for Loyalsock.

In the girls race, Williamsport’s Kate Brue took first place in a time of 21:07. Emily Hale (21:48), Ellie Fisher (22:09) and Alexa Radulski (22:21) also placed in the top five for the Millionaires.

Warrior Run also swept boys and girls meets with convincing wins against Midd-West, 16-39 and 15-44. Caden Dufrene won the boys race in a time of 18:04 with Andrew Adams, Jason Wood and Spencer Fogelman taking the next three spots. Sage Dunkleberger won for the Warrior Run girls in 21:49 with the Defenders displaying some outstanding pack running.

Alyssa Hoffman, Mikeala Majcher, Sienna Dunkleberger and Alanna Ranck all finishing within one second of each other.

Cowanesque Valley fell to Troy in both boys (27-28) and girls (15-50) competition. On the girls side, the Indians’ top runner was McKenna Cary, a freshman who placed fifth with a time of 23:01. Cowanesque Valley’s Seth Neal won the boys race in 17:51, the only runner to crack the 18-minute mark.

The Canton boys cross country team swept a tri-meet against Northeast Bradford and Sullivan County, winning 19-36 and 25-30, respectively. Michael Skipper took first for Canton in a time of 19:46. Teammate Hunter Ostrander took third and Isaac Landis fourth. Bryson Charles placed sixth for Sullivan County.

Lewisburg’s boys and girls cross country teams beat Mifflinburg with identical 15-50 scores. The Green Dragons had runners place in each of the top 9 spots. Jacob Hess won in 16:07 and Thomas Hess finished second in 16:25. Calvin Bailey took third. On the girls side, Lewisburg took the top 8 places, led by Sarah Mahoney’s first-place finish of 21:11. She beat Delaney Humphrey by three seconds. Maggie Daly, Hannah Mirshahi and Olivia Beattie finished third through fifth, respectively.

Chloe Burke scored and added an assist, but Benton defeated Sullivan County, 10-2. Bethany Beinlich also scored.

South Williamsport defeated Millville, 2-1. Piper Minier scored the go-ahead goal with 10 minutes remainig on an assist from Aleigha Reippel. Charlotte Barclay scored 3 minutes into the game on an assist from Olivia Casella before Millvilled tied the game early in the second half.

Laila Shams had five saves for the Mounties (1-1).

Muncy scored nine goals in a 9-0 rout over CMVT. Lauren Anderson had two goals and an assist and Avery Bigelow had a goal and two assists. The Indians didn’t allow a single shot.

South Williamsport tied Jersey Shore in a double overtime contest, 0-0. The Lancers held a 7-5 shots on goal advantage. Rylie French had nine saves for Loyalsock and Liz Fishel had four saves for the Bulldogs.

In boys soccer, Milton cruised to a 3-0 win against Montoursville. Conner Smith, Brodey Scoggins and Carter Lilley all scored for the Black Panthers. Milton held a 9-4 shots on goal advantage as Tyler Flederbach earned the shutout win in goal.

Lewisburg beat Shikellamy, 13-0, as the Green Dragons scored 10 first-half goals. Anthony Bhangdia scored three goals and had two assists and Ben Liscum added a hat trick as well.

Bloomsburg defeated Hughesville, 5-1. Cameron McCarthy and Ahmed Elbetagy both scored twice for the Panthers to build an early 4-0 lead in the first half. Huhgesville’s only goal came from Ethan Jackson off a Nick Trevouledes assist.

Central Mountain continued its strong tennis season, blanking Williamsport, 5-0. Carolina Carpenetti, Olivia Anastos and Kati Kwiatek won straight-sets singles matches.

Montoursville continued its strong golf season, defeating Mifflinburg, 171-196. Peyton Mussina took first place, shooting a 38 with teammate Cameron Francis close behind at 39. Gabe Hornberger shot a 49 and Gage Wheeland a 51. Lauren Marks shot well, producing a 45 and Bryn Fargo shot a 52.
