HS football preview: Shamokin at Jersey Shore
Jersey Shore (11-4) is coming off one of the best seasons in program history, repeating as league and District 4 Class AAAA champions, and reaching the state semifinals for the first time. Although the Bulldogs graduated some terrific players, a strong nucleus returns and the they once again appear dangerous.
The two-time defending HAC-I champions return four starters along the offensive line and have one of the state’s premier receivers in Cayden Hess (75 catches last year). Owen Anderson is one of the district’s most versatile weapons and Cam Allison and Kooper Peacock are among those who could become significant weapons.
Jersey Shore could remain tough defensively and its defensive line has the potential to be among the area’s best. Gabe Packer is an outstanding linebacker and the Bulldogs are on the state’s radar, opening as the No. 2-ranked Class AAAA team.
Shamokin (3-8) struggled down the stretch last year, but gave Mount Carmel one of its toughest regular-season games in the season finale, reached the District 4 Class AAA playoffs and returns several starters. Third-year coach Henry Hynoski led Shamokin to the district semifinals in his debut campaign and junior running back Max Madden is a reliable three-year starter.
