Week 1 football: Shikellamy at Central Mountain
Central Mountain (1-9 last year) is hoping to turn things around following three straight one-win seasons and there is plenty of reason for excitement. The entire starting offensive line returns, wide receiver Peyton Johnson is one of the area’s best and quarterback Brett Gerlach could be poised for a breakout season. Ryan Pentz led the team in rushing and also is back.
The Wildcats could be improved defensively as well. Linebacker Micah Walizer headlines that unit and Anton Stratts can be a difference-maker up front.
Former Danville coach Jim Keiser makes his Shikellamy (4-7) coaching debut after enjoying one of the more successful tenures in Ironmen history. He has some exciting playmakers to work with, including quarterback Mason Balestrini, 6-foot-5 tight end Davis Marshall and versatile running back Coltyn Sempko.
