Bucktail’s Perry wins at Super 32 tourney in Myrtle Beach

Bucktail’s Dalton Perry capped off an impressive week of wrestling Sunday when he won the 112-pound middle school championship at the Super 32 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Perry won the title by defeating California’s Joseph Antonio in the final with a fall in 38 seconds.

The victory capped a run of nothing but bonus-point wins for Perry to capture the title. Perry went a perfect 5-0 in the tournament, winning his first four matches by technical fall before earning a fall in the final with a vicious headlock.

Perry’s championship comes a year after failing to place at one of the country’s most prestigious preseason tournaments. But Perry carried with him some momentum going into Super 32. He was part of PA Power Wrestling’s inaugural True Power exhibition less than a week ago.

The eighth-grader faced returning PIAA champion Vincent Kilkeary of Greater Latrobe – who won the 106-pound Super 32 title in the high school division. Perry was trailing Kilkeary, who is ranked third in the country at 106 pounds, 3-0 in the second period when he caught Kilkeary on his back during a scramble and secured the fall.

Perry finished last season at the fifth-ranked 95-pound junior high wrestler in the country. Perry was the lone junior high wrestler to earn a fall in Sunday’s finals at Super 32.
