Local roundup: District 4 singles bracket set for Saturday

Returning state runner-up Olivia Dorner of South Williamsport earned the No. 1 seed for Saturday’s District 4 Class AA tennis singles tournament. Dorner, who is already a two-time district champion, is the top seed for the third time.

Three-time district runner-up Katie Savidge of Loyalsock is the No. 2 seed and Montoursville’s Lydia Barbour is the No. 3 seed. Savidge and Barbour split their two meetings this season and could meet in the semifinals Saturday at the Central PA Tennis Center in South Williamsport.

The champion advances to the PIAA tournament.

• South Williamsport’s Hayden Swinehart scored five goals to become the third Mountie in school history to reach 50 career goals in an 11-2 win over Montgomery on Thursday in high school boys soccer. Swinehart’s five goals moved him to 53 for his career.

Quaid Molino scored a pair of goals and added seven assists for South Williamsport to give him 45 career assists. Ben Manning and Kayvan Shams also scored a pair of goals for the Mounties.

Montoursville defeated Central Mountain, 2-1, as Mason Winslow scored twice and Bryce Bean had two assists. The Wildcats’ Grant Cole scored off a penalty kick to cut the deficit to one.

• Ella Reish and Mikayla Long both scored for Lewisburg in a 2-0 win over Williamsport in girls soccer. Adelia Engle recorded 10 saves for the Millionaires (3-5-1).

Katie Ryder scored twice and Maggie Ryder added a goal, but Loyalsock fell to Mount Carmel, 6-3. Evy Andrews had an assist for the Lancers. Rylie French had 10 saves.

Alexa Ulmer buried a penalty kick in the 63rd minute to tie the game and Montoursville picked up a 2-2 tie with Shikellamy in girls high school soccer. The Warriors took a 1-0 lead when Shyanne Klemick scored n a Jullian Irion assist.

Devon Walker gave Jersey Shore an early lead when she scored off an Aubrey Sechrist assist in the first half, but Mifflinburg scored two unanswered goals to take a 2-1 win over the Bulldogs. Liz Fishel made five saves for Jersey Shore.

Bethany Beinlich scored twice and Chloe Burke and Kassidy Beinlich both added goals in Sullivan County’s 4-0 win over Millville. Sophie Springman had two assists.

• Williamsport lost to Minersville, 3-2 (17-25, 25-20, 25-23, 24-16, 13-15) in girls volleyball. Elise Berthold had a solid day as she led the team in points (16), digs (23) and kills (17). Johanna Baker had a team-high 20 assists and Emma Dickey added 20 digs and 14 kills.

Galeton beat Smethport, 3-0 (25-20, 25-8, 25-16). Alli Macensky had a team-high 14 kills and Lauren Sauley had 12 digs and 10 assists.

• Lewisburg beat Bloomsburg, 1-0, in girls field hockey as Maddie Ikeler scored in the fourth quarter off a corner. Lewisburg’s Kerstin Koons played excellent in goal, recording 15 saves.
