Lewisburg boys secure berth in PIAA Class AA semifinals by topping Notre Dame-Green Pond, 4-0
Lewisburg’s one step closer to where they want to be after defeating Notre Dame-Green Pond, 4-0, in the PIAA Class AA quarterfinals. The win advances the Green Dragons to the state semifinals for the second consecutive season.
The Green Dragons will face Oley Valley on Tuesday at a time and place to be determined.
“We’re happy. It’s just another step closer to where we want to be and we knew it wouldn’t be an easy one,” Lewisburg’s Ben Liscum said. “They were a hard-working team. We were lucky to get away with a 4-0 win.”
Jack Dieffenderfer scored twice, and Anthony Bhangdia and Liscum both scored a goal and dished out an assist.
“Going into the game we had noticed they were a very hard-working team and up-tempo and knew we had to match that and dominate with our work and effort,” Liscum said. “We knew if we did that we’d put ourselves in a good position to get a result.”
Lewisburg did a solid job defensively of limiting Notre Dame-Green Pond as the Crusaders had just one shot on goal.
“The defense was brilliant. It stems from our midfield. We won the battle from the midfield and took pressure off our back line,” Liscum said. “The little opportunities they did had, we shut it down really quick.”
The Green Dragons scored just two minutes into the game and held a 3-0 lead at halftime. Both of Dieffenderfer’s goals came within the first eight minutes of the game.
