Penn State football earns first win of the season by beating Michigan
The bleeding has stopped.
Penn State rode a stingy defense and a strong running game to record its first victory of the season, beating Michigan, 27-17, Saturday at Michigan Stadium.
The Nittany Lions, now 1-5, got rushing touchdowns from both its quarterbacks, Sean Clifford, who started, and Will Levis, who entered in the goal-line offense and scored on a 3-yard run with 8:12 remaining to clinch the win.
Michigan fell to 2-4.
Freshman running back Keyvone Lee made his first career start and led the Lions with 134 yards on 22 carries and a 6-yard game-opening touchdown.
Clifford completed 17-of-28 passes for 163 yards and added 73 yards on nine carries, including a 28-yard TD that put the Lions up 14-7 in the second quarter.
Penn State did not commit a turnover, which had plagued them through the 0-5 start.
The Nits’ defense, which had allowed 30 points in six straight games, dating back to the 2019 Cotton Bowl, limited Michigan to four conversions on 12 third-down attempts and one of three on fourth down.
