Kegler’s Korner: Harris, Miller lead area with notable bowling scores

For one reason or another, not many leagues bowled last week, but there were some notable scores that should be mentioned.

DeWayne Harris rolled an 805 series in the Monday Night Classic, and Lisa Miller’s 564 series, including a 230 game in the Inter-community League was the top female performance of the week. Harris’ series included a 289 game, which edged out Jamie Frye’s 288 in the same league for high male game of the week.

ON THIS DATE: In 2016, in the Inner-community League, Dale Gerhard rolled three perfect games for a 900 series, establishing a new County Association record for high series, a record that can never be broken, only tied.

It is interesting to note that the local association has always been at the national forefront when it comes to series records. At age 59, Gerhard became the oldest bowler ever — nationally — to bowl a perfect series. He broke John Wilcox’s local record of 885, which, when it was set in 1972, was the second highest series ever bowled in the nation, and the highest by a left hander.

Wilcox broke Joe Kittel’s local record of 825, which when it was set in 1938, was the 13th highest series ever bowled in the history of the American Bowling Congress.

Since few leagues bowled last week, the following are the leading averages for each league at this point in the season.
