Local roundup: Montgomery’s Logan Almeida scores 26 in boys basketball win over CMVT

Logan Almeida scored a season-high 26 points and made seven steals as Montgomery went on the road and won its first game, defeating CMVT, 61-56. Maurice Walters scored 16 points, grabbed six rebounds and made four steals while Coltin Hans was strong inside, pulling down 13 rebounds. Austin Kuhn added nine points and made three 3-pointers.

Ross Eyer and Max Rymsza both had big nights and Muncy pulled away in the second half as it defeated Millville, 55-36. Eyer recorded a double-double with 18 points, 14 rebounds and three steals. Rymsza also scored 18 points while adding six steals and five rebounds. Branson Eyer and Conner Sassano each had nine points for Muncy (2-0) which plays at Montoursville tonight.

Davion Hill scored scored 21 points and St. John Neumann overcame a slow start to defeat Northwest, 64-48. The Knights trailed by one after a quarter before outscoring Northwest by 24 points in the middle quarters. David Hill scored 16 points for the Knights (3-0) and Hanief Clay added 12.

Canton also stayed unbeaten as three players scored in double figures in a 57-26 win against Cowanesque Valley. Tyler Jannone scored a career-high 15 points and Caiden Williams produced 14. Isaiah Niemczyk added 12 for the Warriors (2-0) while Tucker St. Peter scored 11 for CV.

In girls basketball, Emily McKee scored 14 points in her first game back after tearing her ACL last year as Warrior Run defeated Milton, 45-36, She was one of three players scoring in double figures, joining Jordan Hartman (11) and Sydney Hoffman (10).

Maddie Adams and Alaina Marchioni each scored 14 points, but St. Joseph’s rallied from a seven-point fourth-quarter deficit and defeated Montoursville, 56-52. Adams and MacKenzie Weaver (11 points) each hit three 3-pointers and Madison Labatch added six points off the bench.

Jersey Shore hung tough with Mifflinburg, but the Wildcats held it off in a 44-36 victory. Delaney Herbst scored 10 points and Devon Walker added eight for the Bulldogs.

Lewisburg defeated Central Columbia, 41-28, in high school wrestling. Lewisburg’s Hagen Persun pinned Gage Chipelski in 2 minutes, 31 seconds at 152 pounds. Kaiden Wagner won for Lewisburg at 132 by tech fall, 16-1, 4:40.
