Bucknell wrestling to have 10 at EIWAs

Bucknell’s wrestling team heads to Manheim today for the EIWA Championships. The Bison will compete with American, Army West Point, Binghamton, Drexel, Hofstra, Lehigh, LIU, No. 17 Navy and Sacred Heart.

Session 1 begins with the pigtail, quarterfinals and pigtail consolations at 10 a.m. The semifinals, consolation quarterfinals and consolation semifinals are at 2 p.m. and the first- through seventh-place matches will start at 5:30 p.m.

The EIWA will have 45 automatic qualifiers for the NCAA Championships, which ranks behind only the Big Ten’s 66. Last year, Bucknell had two automatic berths for the second straight season as Zach Hartman (165 pounds) and Drew Phipps (197) both qualified for NCAAs.

Hartman will look to get back to NCAAs as he’s projected to be in Bucknell’s lineup at 165. Hartman is Bucknell’s only undefeated wrestler in the tournament this year at 7-0.

Brandon Seidman (5-1) will wrestle at 125, Darren Miller (5-1) will wrestle at 133, Kurt Phipps (4-4) will wrestle at 141, Matthew Kolonia (2-2) will wrestle at 149, Vincent Andreano (5-1) will wrestle at 174 (5-1), Frankie Guida Jr. (3-4) will compete at 184, Mason McCready (4-4) will wrestle at 197 and at 285, Dorian Crosby (3-3) will be competing.

Either Nick Delp (4-4) or Jaden Fisher (0-0) will be wrestling for the Bison at 157.

The EIWA will send three wrestlers at 125 and 133; four at 149 and 285; five at 141, 157, 165, 174 and 197; and six at 184.

The Bison went 0-3 during their abbreviated season this year, the most recent being a 26-8 loss at Army West Point on Jan. 31. The final three duals were canceled due to Bucknell shifting to remote instruction. Last season, Bucknell finished 10-6 and reached double-digit dual wins for the first time since 2016-17.

Hartman was Bucknell’s first freshman to finish as an EIWA runner-up in 2019 and became the second Bison to twice finish second at the EIWA Championships.
