ROUNDUP: Moyer strikes out 17 as Muncy beats Bucktail

Nolah Moyer struck out 17 batters in a two-hitter as Muncy knocked Bucktail from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 5-2 win over the Bucks in high school softball Thursday. The Indians put together a four-run fourth inning to take control of the game. Kelcie Wertz drove in a pair of runs.

“This was an extraordinarily great game by our girls,” Muncy coach Joe Tedesco said. “Our middle of the lineup and bottom of the lineup pulled us through. There were great plays in the outfield. Everything was absolutely perfect.”

Moyer earned her second pitching win of the season by scattering a pair of hits. The 17 strikeouts were a career high for the freshman.

“She was hitting the corners,” Tedesco said. “She had a nice little drop curve going, but she was mostly hitting the corners.”

Avery Eiswerth threw a two-hitter and Layla Waldman hit a home run as Williamsport defeated perennial power Bald Eagle Area, 5-1. Eiswerth made her first start this season and allowed only a third inning run while striking out four. Myla Kelley and Jayla Bartholomew hit triples as Williamsport built a 4-0 second-inning lead and improved to 5-0. Aubrianna Blair and Nicole Belton each hit RBI doubles.

Kaitlyn Klotz went 2 for 2 with a home run and MacKenzie Weaver struck out 10 as Montoursville collected an impressive win and defeated defending District 4 Class AAA champion Bloomsburg, 11-4. Natalie Bennett went 2 for 3 with an RBI, Weaver hit a two-run triple and Brianna Trueman was 1 for 2 with an RBI as Montoursville (3-2) won for the third time in four games, scoring seven fifth-inning runs to break open a close game.

• Loyalsock’s Josh Rankey threw a three-inning perfect game, striking out seven of the nine hitters he faced as the Lancers defeated Warrior Run in high school baseball, 15-0. Rankey threw 30 of his 39 pitches for strikes. Spencer Gross was 3 for 3 for the Lancers and was a single shy of the cycle. He hit a grand slam, doubled and tripled and drove in six runs. Mo Cotter and Chase Cavanaugh also had three hits for Loyalsock.

• Tionna Collier picked up wins in both the 100 and 200 and Prynn Sidleck added two more wins as Williamsport beat Mifflinburg in girls track and field, 86-64. Sidleck took first in the 100 hurdles and also had a jump of 15 feet to win the long jump.

• Max Goode won both a track event and a field event to help Williamsport squeak past Mifflinburg, 76-74. Good took first place in the 100 meters, and also added a win in the long jump with a best mark of 21 feet, 8 inches. Shaheem Hill took a win in the high jump for the Millionaires, clearing 5-10.

• Zach Lake won an exciting three-set match, taking the final set, 10-4 as Williamsport blanked Selinsgrove, 5-0. Kyle Shuler and Austin Imhoof won straight-set matches. Evan Beiter and Owen Kaar as well as Hemberth Pena-Vasquez and Abheet Sharker won straight-set doubles matches as Williamsport improved to 6-1.

Montoursville remained undefeated as Jared Matlack and Tyler Gilbert won straight-sets matches. The doubles teams of D.J. Alexander and Greyson Simms and Domanick Young and Noah Shaffer also were victorious in straight sets. Logan Burns won for Hughesville at No. 1 singles, taking his match, 6-4, 6-1.

• Matt Spaulding scored a hat trick and Lewisburg outscored Lake-Lehman by four in the second half to win a boys lacrosse game, 8-4. Spaulding scored three goals and Collin Starr had two for the Green Dragons. Rowen Martin, Alex Koontz and Matt Reish also added goals for Lewisburg.
