College roundup: CM grad Laurel Moyer leads LHU track and field team at PSAC Championships
The Lock Haven University women’s outdoor track and field closed the 2021 PSAC Championships in style as the Bald Eagles turned in a number of sensational individual efforts which led to All-Conference honors.
Leading the way today for Lock Haven was Central Mountain grad Laurel Moyer, Riyana Owens and Billie Jo Bollinger.
Overall, Lock Haven finished sixth of 15 in the team standings.
Moyer capped a brilliant three days with a second-place (All-PSAC) finish in the 5,000-meter run. She was second out of 15 with a time of 17:54.77.
Owens was third in both the 100 and 200-meter dash, earning All-PSAC honors in both events by way of the top-three performance. Bollinger was fourth in the both the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles.
Junior Sean Ringgold and senior Rob Robbins collected gold medals to highlight the Mansfield University track and field team.
Ringgold claimed gold in the 200-meter dash finishing with his personal best time of 21.82. Ringgold came into the meet ranked fourth in the event. That time is the third fastest time in program history.
Ringgold collected more hardware and an All-PSAC finish in the 400-meter dash crossing the line in second with a time of 49.47.
Senior Hunter DePrimo struck out 15 hitters in a complete-game victory to lead the Mansfield University baseball team to a 5-1 win in game one over Shepherd. The Mounties fell in game two, 7-2.
DePrimo fanned a PSAC-leading 15 hitters to lead the Mountaineers to their 11th conference win on the season, the most since 2010 when the program won 13 games and went to an NCAA Regional. DePrimo has struck out 83 hitters on the season, good enough for 6th in program history.
Junior Ben Osborne led the way for MU at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs and a double. Junior Assaf Lowengart drove in a run, freshman Zach Shertzer added a run scored and an RBI, while sophomore Zach Spray totaled three RBI on his second big fly of the year
Lock Haven closed the regular season with a 4-3 and 12-8 loss to West Chester in a doubleheader. In the first game, Garrett Nepert broke up Joe Sperone’s no-hit bid in dramatic fashion with an opposite-field, three-run home run.
Gavin Troutman and Justin Lichtenwalner both had RBI singles in the second game.
