Local roundup: Idris Ali wins 4 events for Sock track

Idris Ali was a four-time individual winner to help Loyalsock squeak past Hughesville in high school boys track and field, 72-69. Ali had wins in the 100 (11.52), the long jump (19-9), the triple jump (40-1) and the high jump (5-4).

Jamaire Harden won both hurdles events and Williamsport swept the relays as the Millionaires cruised past Central Mountain, 124-26. Williamsport won 15 of the 18 events. Maxwell Goode jumped 21-2 to win the long jump, and Garret Laver had a throw of 131-8 to win the discus.

• Hughesville won nine events on the track and five more in the field to defeat Loyalsock in girls track and field, 112-33. The Spartans’ Alex Snyder won an anticipated matchup in the javelin of two of District 4’s best with a distance of 114 feet, 2 inches. The returning district champ outpaced Loyalsock’s Alexis Keefer, who was second with a throw of 108-2. The Lancers’ Sophia Gardner hit her best long jump of the season at 17-0 1/4.

Williamsport’s Luseane Ma’afu won a tight shot put contest with a best throw of 36-1 to help the Millionaires beat Central Mountain, 95-55. Ma’afu topped Central Mountain’s Mallory Eck by one inch in the shot. Enya Green-Pratt unleashed a throw of 123-7 to win the javelin, and Tionna Collier ran 12.54 to win the 100 for the Millionaires.

• Jared Matlack posted a straight-sets win at No. 2 singles to help Montoursville’s boys tennis team defeat Towanda, 5-0. Matlack picked up his win, 6-0, 6-0. Andrew Stapp and Tyler Gilbert also won in straight sets in singles, and Kaleb Watts and Aidan Morrow teamed for a 6-0, 6-1 win in doubles.

Loyalsock lost both matches of a doubleheader to Lewisburg, 4-1 and 5-0. In the first contest, Loyalsock’s only win came at No. 3 singles where Liam Bastian beat Henry Schumacher, 6-3, 6-4.

At No. 1 singles, Lewisburg’s Evan Cecchini beat Jett Pulizzi, 6-0, 6-0 in the first contest and 6-0, 6-1 in the second.

• Maddix Dalena and Grayson Rinker combined on a four-inning no-hitter and Dalena homered, helping Montoursville blank Montgomery, 16-0. Dalena drove in four runs and JJ Batkowski hit a triple. Montoursville scored 10 runs in the first two inings and Nolan Kutney, CJ Signor, Nick Reeder and Coen Metzger all hit doubles. Dalena and Rinker combined for four strikeouts.

A heavy rain halted St. John Neumann’s baseball game with Muncy with the Knights leading the Indians, 11-3, with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning. No makeup date to finish the game has been decided yet. Neumann starting pitcher JerVal Weeks-Shuler struck out eight over four innings, and Ryan Thompson drove in four runs with a pair of doubles.

• Warrior Run was held to just one hit as the Defenders were defeated by Central Columbia, 10-0, in six innings. Gracy Beachel led Warrior Run by going 1 for 3.

Tori Barto produced two hits and Makenzy Swisher collected three RBIs, helping Hughesville blank St. John Neumann, 15-0 in four innings. Chylee Stroup hit an RBI triple and Sara Stroup was 1 for 2 with three runs and two RBIs. Sarah Wertz threw a three-hit shutout and struck out six.

Hannah Winter hit a grand slam and earned the win as Loyalsock defeated Montoursville, 10-3 in a rain-shortened five-inning game. Allyia Kennedy and Summer McNulty each produced three hits and Mallory Rodarmel, Mari Houseknecht and Jocelyn Cruz all had two. Brianna Trueman homered, had two hits and drove in three for Montoursville. Kaitlyn Klotz added two hits.

• Lewisburg pulled away with a 10-goal second half to defeat Dallas, 14-11, in boys high school lacrosse. Collin Starr scored a team-high five goals for the Green Dragons and Matt Spaulding added four. Alex Koontz had two goals and four assists for Lewisburg

• Lycoming lost to Stevens Institute of Technology, 5-0, in the MAC Freedom Championship quarterfinals. Lycoming’s Hannah Seebold and Madi Heller fell at No. 1 doubles, 8-1, and the Warriors’ Emily Wolfgang and Haley Seebold lost at No. 2 doubles, 8-0.

• For the second time in as many weeks, Mansfield University track and field senior Rob Robbins earned PSAC Field Athlete of the Week honors for his javelin throw of 69.40 meters at the LHU Qualifiers. Robbins took first place in the Javelin as he improved his Mansfield record by 1.26 meters.
